In Loving Memory of Blakely Gurgul
Our Beloved Daughter, Sister, and Friend
August 8, 2014 – May 7, 2025
With broken hearts and immeasurable sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, Blakely Gurgul, who left this world far too soon at the age of 10.
From the moment she was born, Blakely defied the odds. Diagnosed with Noonan Syndrome, she faced her many health challenges with remarkable courage and grace. She never allowed her diagnosis to define her-living each day with joy, strength, and a love that touched everyone she met. In her short time on Earth, Blakely taught us more about perseverance, kindness, and compassion than many learn in a lifetime.
Blakely was a bright light-brave, joyful, and endlessly caring. She had a natural drive to give her best in everything she did, whether in school, therapy, or the many activities she loved. She found joy in dancing, swimming, and creating art alongside her sisters and friends. Most recently, she discovered a passion for theater after joining Special Gifts Theater this past fall-a new outlet that brought her so much pride and happiness. Despite the extra effort many things required of her, Blakely approached life with a full heart and an unshakable determination.
Some of her happiest days were spent at Lake Minear, playing in the sand and joining in with nearby families. Her vibrant personality made her unforgettable-wherever we went, someone always seemed to know and love Blakely. Though small in size, she was mighty in spirit, and her presence left a lasting impact on everyone who had the joy of knowing her.
Blakely had an especially nurturing heart and was drawn to babies and younger children. She adored them-always eager to help, to comfort, and to make them feel safe and loved. Above all, she was a devoted big sister to Eliza and Layne, and a loyal friend and classmate. She treasured riding the school bus with her friends and seeing her beloved teachers each day.
Blakely is survived by her loving parents, Ronald and Patti, and her cherished sisters, Eliza and Layne; her grandparents, Diana Bellafiore ("Nannie"), and Dave and Carol Van de Casteele ("Opa and Oma"); her aunts and uncles, Christina Papish, Dana Gurgul, Bonnie Van Epps, and Mike and Cathy Van de Casteele; her cousins, Gavin, Ava, Hudson, Lylah, Breven, Miles, Aliyah, Finley, Dylan, and River; and many other loving family members and friends.
She is now reunited in heaven with her grandfather, Ronald Gurgul ("Papa").
We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to our family, friends, and community for the overwhelming love and support you have shown us. We are blessed to be part of a community that has held us so closely. A special thank you to the many medical professionals who have walked alongside Blakely throughout her life. We are forever grateful to those who never gave up on her and who worked tirelessly to keep her as healthy and safe as possible. We are especially thankful to the incredible staff of Lurie Children's Hospital PICU and CCU, whose dedication and compassion carried us through the past three months. You are truly angels on Earth, and you will always hold a special place in our hearts.
In honor of Blakely's memory, we invite friends and family to share their favorite stories or photos by emailing them to
