Lili Zhang, 63, passed peacefully in her sleep on September 2nd, 2025. She was deeply loved by her family and there will be a hole left forever in our hearts for her. She lived her life joyfully, with humor and grace and love for her family and friends. She fought bravely against glioblastoma and was taken from us too soon, but we will meet again in heaven in future happy reunion.
Lili was born September 30th, 1961 in Shanghai, China, the youngest and the only daughter of Peidei Zhang, her father and Rong Li, her mother. She is survived by her two older brothers, Shen Zhang and Xiaoming Zhang. She grew up in Shanghai, China where she graduated from Shanghai International Studies University with an English degree. She worked as an accountant at China Telecom in Shanghai between 1981 and 1991. She met her husband Jian Gan in 1987 and they married in March 22nd, 1988. Her daughter Meng Gan was born in 1990 and within one year both she and Jian left for Michigan. The family was reunited in Michigan in 1995.
She graduated from Clearly College in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1996 with a BBA in Accounting. The family then moved to Richland, Washington in 2000, and then ultimately settled in Idaho Falls, Idaho in 2002. She then started her career at Dome Technology as an accountant in 2006 until the time of her glioblastoma diagnosis in late 2024. She and Jian moved to join their daughter in Chicago in early 2025 where she passed away in the Chicago suburb of Vernon Hills, Illinois. She is survived by her husband Jian Gan and her daughter Meng Gan.
She found great joy in life. She loved cooking Chinese food, shopping, socializing, and traveling. She always had time to talk to friends no matter the distance and loved to laugh. She was a filial daughter, took great joy in being a mother, and family was the most important thing to her. Likewise, she was the center of our family as well and her presence will be sorely missed. Rest in peace beloved mother, wife, sister, daughter, and friend.
Per her wishes, she will be cremated and laid to rest in a sunny niche where she will be ultimately joined in eternity with her family. She will forever live in our hearts. Funeral services to be announced at a later date pending finalization of details.
