Blanca Rosa Delgado, lovingly known to many as "Clara", the beloved matriarch of a vast and vibrant family, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025 at the age of 101. A woman whose life was defined by prodigious generosity, remarkable strength, and boundless love, she leaves a legacy that spans continents and generations.
Born in Callao, Peru, on August 12, 1924, Blanca was the fifth of ten children born to Ernesto Nuñez (Peruvian-Chilean) and Leonor Nogales (Bolivian). She often fondly recalled her lively childhood and maintained a close connection with her siblings throughout her life, spending countless hours on the phone with those who lived far away.
In 1941, she married Hermes Delgado, a detective for the National Police in Peru. Blanca was a devoted homemaker whose love for children was a driving force in her life, a love that was profoundly expressed in the eleven children they raised together.
Blanca was a force of nature-courageous, frank, and a tireless caretaker. In 1983, she bravely moved her life to Los Angeles, California, USA, where she continued to nurture her family and community. Her hospitality was legendary; no one ever went without food in her presence, nor did they lack a listening ear. She freely shared her time, resources, and wisdom, always appreciative of the life she was given. Her gratitude for living long enough to see her family grow so large was a frequent expression of joy.
She was the heart of the home and the spirit of every family gathering. Her love of cooking the family's favorite Peruvian dishes ensured that all extended family visits were close-knit, joyous affairs. Blanca's elegant nature meant she always loved to look her best, but she was most content spending time with her family.
A true lover of nature, Blanca's passion for flowers and gardening was known to all-she could, as many recall, create a beautiful bouquet from a single bloom. She loved fresh air, listening to and feeding birds, and having them as pets whenever possible. She also had a special place in her heart for the various dogs that shared her home, ensuring they were never without companionship or a meal.
Blanca Rosa Delgado is the true definition of a matriarch, and her ultimate legacy is the sprawling, close-knit family she created. She expressed her final gratitude for a long life well-lived and a lifetime of love.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Hermes Delgado, her son Hermes "Junior" Delgado and her daughter Sonia Verne.
She is survived by her nine devoted children; Martha Bryan and her husband Howard, Perla Maguina, Jorge Delgado and his wife Sandra, Nancy Postigo and her husband Victor, Mirtia Delgado and her husband Yannis, Carmen Mahmoudian and her husband Hossein, Elias Delgado and his wife Anita, Noris Vavoulidis and her husband Matthew, and Patricia Eguiluz
She is also survived by 26 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren and large extended family scattered all over the world, who will carry her loving spirit forward.
