Robert (Bob) John Kopp passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026 at Riverview Care Center Bossier City, Louisiana. He was 94. Bob was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Joan. He is survived by his daughters, Mary Kopp Adams and Nancy (Ivan) Vazquez; his grandsons, Armando and Anthony Vazquez, granddaughter Isabella (Mike) Castro, a great grandson, Andy Castro and great granddaughter, Natalie Castro. He is also survived by his brother, Donald Kopp, cousin Warren (Jane) Mueller and several nieces and nephews.
Bob was born on November 3, 1931 in the Bronx, New York to Randolph Kopp and Florence (Schadt) Kopp. He attended the New York City school system until his graduation from DeWitt Clinton High school in 1950, where he was on the rifle team. From there Bob began his career as a banker working as a teller at Union Dime Savings Bank in New York City until he moved to Poughkeepsie in 1956. There he worked at the Poughkeepsie Savings Bank holding various positions until his retirement in 1986. Bob was a dedicated, hardworking and loyal employee.
Bob was also a lifelong member of the Freemasons and was a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He served as Master of the Lodge in Wappinger Falls, New York in 1968.
In retirement, Bob worked various part time jobs in retail in the Poughkeepsie area including Kohl’s where he loved to dress in Sponge Bob or Bob The Builder costumes for Halloween allowing him to show his true personality as a kid at heart where he brought smiles to people’s faces!! He also enjoyed spending more time with his family and new grandchildren.
Bob and Joan were active members of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Poughkeepsie, New York throughout their lives. Bob was on the vestry, was the church warden, an usher as well as a Sunday school educator and superintendent until they moved to Louisiana in 2005 to join Nancy, Ivan and the grandchildren to begin a new phase of their lives.
Upon moving to Louisiana, Joan and Bob were blessed to find a church community with St. Paul’s Episcopal church where they were active members until they were no longer able to attend. Joan and Bob were most grateful for the weekly prayer services and continued visitations from St. Paul’s church during the years they could no longer attend.
Shortly after their arrival in Louisiana, Bob joined the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Posse as a volunteer. He proudly wore his uniform and enjoyed being on patrol assisting the Sheriff’s Department for several years.
Central to Bob’s personality was his love of humanity and true desire to minister to others. His love of God and dedication to church was apparent to all who knew him. He and Joan always put God FIRST in their lives, often saying that “things will work out; the Lord will provide.”
Bob’s kind and generous spirit touched all who knew him. He showed true compassion to everyone and was genuinely interested in people’s lives. In his later years, even despite his dementia he still knew in his heart what was important and could light up a room with so much as a kind word or amusing comment. He would break into laughter at seeing the face of the person who he made smile or laugh which gave him true joy!!
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. One of the fondest memories for many is Bob’s dressing in his Uncle Sam’s costume on the 4th of July and singing “Yankee Doodle Dandy” walking down the halls!
The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Riverview Care Center where he lived happily for the past 8 years and who became part of his family where he truly felt at “home.” The Family would also like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at Lifepath Hospice for the genuine care and support they provided in his final days.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Shreveport on March 3, 2026 at 2:00 PM. All are welcome.
Donations in Bob’s memory may be made to St. Paul’s Church, Alzheimer’s Association or to a charity of your choice.
