Bobbie Jean (Freeman Neely) Allen, of
Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2026, at age 95. Born on a farm near
Barry, Texas, just west of Corsicana, Bobbie grew up in a no-nonsense post-Depression world. She learned to brook no nonsense herself, unless the occasion called for it.
Bobbie wore many hats (and jewelry, and shoes): Miss Corsicana 1946. Mainstay of the fine arts community in the Montrose District of
Houston, Texas. Friend to Taos Pueblo, New Mexico and collector of Southwestern art. Impeccably and distinctively dressed (and frequently flirty) real estate agent who sold or rented enough houses over her decades as a sole proprietor that she was affectionately nicknamed "Properties." For years, you could reach Bobbie on her car phone-in a Cadillac, naturally-or
on her home answering machine, when both were novelties. Bobbie always set an extraordinary table for her family and was exacting about all the right things: how to prepare a proper vodka and lemon, the brand of cornbread needed for her Thanksgiving dressing (the recipe for which remains closely guarded), and which people are most and least fit for political office. She was fiercely loyal to those closest to her, and her unique blend of strength and style served as a role model for a much
wider circle. Bobbie's mind remained sharp and probing until her body let her down. Those who heard Bobbie remark on life's gifts-and the people she loved-with the
phrase "God's love" can smile knowing she is now basking directly in it.
Bobbie is survived by her loving daughters, Franci Neely and Bridget Monthy; her grandchildren, Trey Beck (Lo Naylor) of Brooklyn, NewYork, and Jeremy Monthy (Wendi) of
Houston, Texas; her great-grandchildren, Meridian Monthy, Talulah Monthy, and Nico Naylor; and her sister, Barbara Giles. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elma Freeman and Thelma (Watkins) Freeman; two husbands, Henry Neely and Bob Allen; her sister, Frances Marie Davis;
and the pricelessly precious Pomeranian, Milo.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 2, with details and a written commemoration worthy of her stature to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Houston Zoo, where Bobbie volunteered for many years.
