Bobbie Ray Henkes, 80 of McGregor, Iowa passed away Thursday, October 23, 2025 at his home. Bobbie was born March 25, 1945 to Carroll and Irene (Hultgren) Henkes in McGregor. He graduated with the class of 1963 from Mar-Mac High School. Bobbie joined the United States Army and proudly served in the Vietnam War.

On July 3, 1969, Bobbie was united in marriage with Susan Laufer. Two sons were born to this union. Bobbie worked for the grain elevator in McGregor for many years. From 1984 until 2020, Bobbie worked as a Mail Carrier before he retired. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting and picking asparagus.

Surviving Bobbie are his wife, Susan Henkes of McGregor, Iowa; sons, Brent Henkes of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota and Brad Henkes of Winfield, Kansas; grandsons, Reece Henkes, Braden Henkes and Karston Henkes; and his siblings, Gerald (Linda) Henkes of McGregor, Iowa, Donna (Skip) Oetzel of Kentucky, Bonnie Ferguson of Kansas, Sandra Hangartner of Waterloo, Iowa, Carroll (Jane) Henkes of Colorado, Cheryl (Rod) Tippery of Madison, Wisconsin, Lowell (Kathy) Henkes of Florida and Todd (Tammy) Henkes of Florida.

Bobbie was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll and Irene Henkes; siblings, Joanne (Dean) Dull, Pauline (Carl) Brechler and Loren Henkes; and two brothers-in-law, Gary Ferguson and Jerry Hangartner.

Burial with Military Honors will be held at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in McGregor, Iowa at a later date.

Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of McGregor, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements.

I remember Bobbie used to come up to our house on Sunshine Hill to hunt squirrels. He would always come in the house and have a little chat with my mother & me. Rest in Peace, Bobbie.
