Published by Legacy on Nov. 15, 2025.
December 6, 1954 – October 12, 2025
Barbara Nelle Johnson, affectionately known as Bobbie, was born on December 6, 1954, in Jackson, Mississippi, to Ida G. (Harris) and Lige Johnson. On October 12, 2025, she departed this life peacefully at home, surrounded by her beloved family - her son, grandchildren, and devoted caregiver - after her journey with chronic illness. The Unity Hospice care team worked with her son to provide support and comfort through her last months, and developed great affection for her.
Bobbie grew up in a loving family as the fourth born of her siblings, and she was the fifth to transition from this life to eternity. She graduated from Morgan Park High School in 1973 and carried her sense of determination and compassion into everything she did. She married Henry Bernard Edwards Sr. For more than 40 years, Bobbie worked with pride and dedication at White Castle, where her kindness and work ethic left a lasting impression on colleagues and customers alike. Later, she followed her entrepreneurial spirit in Georgia, where she opened her restaurant, "Some Like It Hot". Her famous macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and sweet tea earned the restaurant the title of "Number One" in the community - a testament not only to her culinary gifts but to the love she poured into every dish. Faith was the cornerstone of Bobbie's life. She was at her family church, Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago and remained deeply devoted to her Christian walk throughout her life. During her years in Georgia, she was an active member of Gospel Tabernacle Central. She was especially grateful to Ministers Rodney B. Jackson and Wiley Jackson, who helped her find her spiritual home in Atlanta. In recent years she found inspiration and fellowship through Bill Winston Ministries at Living Word. Bobbie's faith was not something she kept to herself - she lived it daily. She believed deeply in forgiveness, generosity, and service, freely giving her time, talents, and finances to God and community. She was a woman who could always see the good in people and who hated to see anyone suffer. Even in her own difficult times, she encouraged others to have patience and to trust in God's plan. She remained thankful in all circumstances, finding joy in gospel music, scripture, and the simple blessings of life. Her faithfulness and wisdom will continue to live with those who knew her best.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, Ida and Lige Johnson, and her siblings Paul, Larry, Dolorise, and Ronnie.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving son Henry Bernard Edwards; her siblings Kenny Williams, Charles Johnson, David Johnson, Linda Johnson, and Dwayne Johnson; her adored grandchildren Eric Bernard Johnson, Shaniquah Williams Edwards, Averell K. Williams AKA"Justice Edward Johnson, " Devante C. Williams Edwards, Turan Jacox, Alexis S. Edwards, Keana S. Edwards, Mikayla McDaniels Edwards, Destiny S. Edwards, Myiah Thompson Edwards, Jayla Thompson Edwards, and Aaliyah Thompson Edwards (better known as Chloe); "the most beautiful girls in the world;" goddaughter Nicole Howell, and a host of extended family members and dear friends who will forever remember her faith, humor, and radiant spirit. Bobbie's life was a living testimony of grace, gratitude, and faith. She touched every heart she encountered with love and left the world a warmer, kinder place.
