Bobbie Lois Brown Watson, the eldest daughter of the late Tebora Lee and Luther Brown, Sr., was born on January 7, 1934. She was raised in Corsicana, Texas, and later moved to Decatur, where she met Weldon G. Watson. The two were united in marriage on October 25, 1953, and later made their home in
Amarillo, Texas. From this union, six children were born.
Bobbie Lois was employed at Levi Strauss, TSTI, and Max Banks where she was known as a dedicated and dependable worker.
If Bobbie Lois wasn't working or attending church, her favorite pastimes included cooking and baking (pound cakes, German chocolate cakes, lemon meringue pies, peach and cherry cobblers, banana pudding, cookie pudding, macaroni & cheese, dressing, and any recipe she would find to try), gardening and yard work, walking for exercise, sitting outside enjoying nature, working puzzles, and studying her Bible while listening to music. In addition, she had a special heart for the sick and shut-in, regularly visiting homes, hospitals, and rest homes; and at times delivering food to them as well. She would also offer rides to and from church services, to those in need of transportation.
Bobbie Lois was a faithful, longtime member of Langston Memorial Church of God in Christ, where she served under the leadership of the late Supt. W.C. Thirlkill and the late Supt. Tom E. Jones, Jr. She did not mind working in the church, and worked diligently in several auxiliaries to include Sunday School Department, Home and Foreign Mission Chairperson (Amarillo District #1), Bible Band, Hospitality Committee, YWCC, Benevolence Chairperson, and District President of the Usher Board (Amarillo District #1). She ushered at the local, district, and state levels; and was also a regular attendee of numerous workshops and conventions, both state and national. One of her most favorite yearly trips was to the National COGIC Holy Convocation in Memphis, Tenn. Bobbie enjoyed fashion. She loved donning fashionable suits, dresses, hats, shoes and bags. She took pride in making sure she looked her very best.
Prior to relocating, Bobbie attended Pentecostal Temple Church for one year under the leadership of Pastor Elijah B. Demerson and First Lady Eartha C. Demerson.
Bobbie is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Weldon G. Watson; daughter, Cheryl J. Watson; brother, Reverend M.A. Brown, Sr., Luther Brown, Jr., Joe A. Brown, Reverend Herbert G. Hurd, and Dan C. Hurd; and sisters, Minnie Mornes and Tommie Redmon.
