Bobby Alsobrook Obituary

Visit the Smith & Kernke Funeral Directors - North May Ave website to view the full obituary.

Bobby Joe Alsobrook was born on June 23, 1930, to Gus and Velma Alsobrook in Blackwell, Oklahoma. He was the second born of the family and had 3 sisters Alice, Demoise, and Vera, all who preceded him in death. He was born during the Great Depression and from a young age, supported his family by shining shoes. Bobby joined the Air Force and attained the rank of Chief Master Sergeant before retiring after 30 years of service. He served much of that time as a Chinese linguist aboard an Air Force C-130 intercepting and translating messages.

While Bobby was in the Air Force he was stationed in Hakata Japan and studied Karate while obtaining the rank of 3rd degree black belt and was the first American to lead a team to the Japanese Martial Arts Olympics. While on active duty, Bobby pursued and obtained a master’s degree in computer science. After retiring, he embarked on a second career as a software engineer where he worked for and retired from the Hertz Corporation. Bobby had four children by his first marriage; Bobby, Pamela, Patricia and Paula and his second marriage brought two more to the fold, Wally and Danny. He met the love of his life, Irene Smithson, in Oklahoma City and they married on July 6, 1991, blending six more children into the family: Darrell, Gregory, William, April, Pamela and Gary. He was by all standards, an accepting, loving and compassionate man.

In this union, they shared thirty-five years in each other’s company – reading, traveling, and watching Thunder games. They also saw the family grow to thirty-one grandchildren and multiple great grandchildren. He died quietly at home on November 24, 2025, due to declining health after experiencing a stroke several years before. During his life he was an active member of St. Eugene’s Catholic Church and was most happy when he was surrounded by people he loved. The family requests that In lieu of flowers, donations to fund St. Eugene’s Marian Prayer Garden be considered. The viewing will be held at Smith and Kernke Funeral Home on Friday, November 27th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m.. A funeral mass will be held at St. Eugene’s Catholic Church on Saturday November 29, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. and a graveside service at Resurrection Cemetery on Monday, December 1, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. all in Oklahoma City.
