Bobby Jackson Obituary
Bobby Lee Jackson, Jr., affectionately known as "Jack," passed away on November 3, 2025, in Opelika, Alabama, at the age of 74.
Born on February 4, 1951, Bobby graduated from J.W. Darden High School in 1969. He served in the United States Air Force from 1971 to 1984, demonstrating dedication and honor. Following his military service, he built a successful career as an automotive technician for over 30 years across Delaware and Georgia, retiring from Dekalb County, Georgia.
Bobby's life was deeply enriched by music and faith. A gifted percussionist, he played drums and congas for church choirs throughout his life. He was a vital part of the music ministries at Calvary Baptist Church in Dover, Delaware; Elizabeth Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia; and Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Auburn, Alabama. His rhythm brought joy and spirit to every sanctuary he joined.
A creative soul and craftsman, Bobby built intricate sound systems and handcrafted string art portraits and lighting for loved ones. Known as the family DJ and master of ceremonies, he filled gatherings with music-from the funk of James Brown to the smooth sounds of Sade-ensuring every moment was wrapped in melody and love.
Bobby's legacy lives on through his daughters, Tarra R. Jackson of Bear, Delaware, and Dr. Tia L. Jackson (Jabar Truitt) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Roger-DeSean Lee Jackson, Saniya Lee Jackson-Truitt, and Jaxson Adam Truitt; nephews, Victor Wilson (Wanda) and John Patrick Wilson (Vickie); brother-in-law, R. Darrell P. Wilson (Katrina); lifelong friend James Ellis (Beverly); cousin Ruby Sue Baker; devoted partner Darlene Maddox; and a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 37 years, Stephanie Rojean Jackson; his parents; brother Charles Lee Barrow; sister Katie Maud Wilson; and brother-in-law Vonnie Marion Wilson.
A public viewing will be held at Peterson & Williams Funeral Home in Opelika on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. CT. Final viewing begins at 9 a.m. CT with funeral services at 10 a.m. CT on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Auburn, Alabama.
