Bobby Martin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Coats Funeral Home - Waterford on Mar. 5, 2026.
MARTIN, BOBBY JOE - lovingly known as Bob, BJ, Rughead, Dad, Grandpa, and Umpa - of Waterford, passed away on February 27, 2026, at 85 years of age.

Born in Pontiac to Dorothy (née Adkins) and William Martin, Bob experienced the loss of his father at a young age. He was lovingly raised by his mother and her husband, Larry Peters, who helped shape the strong, family-centered man he would become.

Bob was the beloved husband of the late Marilyn "Scooter" (née Shell) Martin, passing just days short of what would have been their 46th wedding anniversary. The love they shared was deep and enduring, and losing his precious Marilyn was more than he could have imagined. His family finds comfort in knowing they are reunited once again.

He was preceded in death by his son, Robbie Martin, and is survived by his daughter, Tammy Martin. Bob was also a proud father to bonus children Lori Holland, Kristi (Tom) Joss, and David (Cathy) Holland. He was a cherished grandfather to Derrick Martin, Megann (Chris) Chauncey, and Rachel Barnes; and bonus grandfather to Ian (Jordynn) Holland and Alyssa (Aaron Durham) Holland. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Chaise, Ecko, Vincent, Bailee, Vivian, and Rylee. Brother of Dennis Martin and the late Billy Martin. He was also a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.

A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, Bob carried his love of country throughout his life. An engineer by trade, he retired from General Motors in 1992 after nearly 30 years of dedicated service, and later retired from Textron in 1998 after five additional years of work.

Bob was an active member of Elks Lodge #2525, Hale Eagles Aerie #4217, American Legion, and VFW Post 1008. He valued the camaraderie and friendships he built through these organizations.

He loved life and lived it fully. Bob enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating, and cheering on his beloved Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers. He treasured time at the lake in northern Michigan, the sandy beaches of Florida, and gatherings with his many friends.

Known for his great sense of humor, big heart, and unmistakable laugh, Bob loved a good time and rarely missed an opportunity to share one. Above all, he was a family man. His children and grandchildren meant the world to him, and his grandchildren were especially close to his heart. Being "Umpa" was one of his greatest joys.

Bob will be deeply missed, but his family takes solace in the memories of his laughter, his love, and the knowledge that he is now reunited with his beloved Marilyn.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 2 PM at COATS FUNERAL HOME-WATERFORD. Family will receive friends Saturday 11 AM until time of service. Memorials may be made in Bob's memory to the Cancer Society or Alzheimer's Association. To post a tribute, visit www.CoatsFuneralHome.com.

I just learned of Bob's passing. My heart goes out to his entire family, but especially to his Grandson, my son, Derrick Martin via Bob's son Robbie Martin. I have always loved and respected Bob and Marilyn. They had always treated me with respect. I know Bob will be largely missed by so many. I am praying for peace and comfort for the family in this very difficult time. I have great memories to hold onto.
