Bob N. Slayton, Sr. was born in Alamo, TN on August 11, 1937 to the late Flossie Bell Slayton and Herbert Edward Slayton and passed away Friday, July 1, 2022 at the age of 84. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie Leathers.
He graduated from Alamo High School where he excelled in all sports, especially football. He served in the United States Marine Corps from October 1957 until January 1962. He was a charter member of the Marine Corps League of Jackson and was its first Commandant.
He was an ardent sportsman and fisherman; a charter member of the Jackson Bass Club, a long-time sponsor of Ducks Unlimited, a charter member of the TN Sports Foundation, and was supportive of all fish and wildlife conservation efforts. He previously served on the Board of Directors of Crime Stoppers and was coordinator of construction for the Habitat for Humanity houses sponsored by Volunteer Bank.
He retired as Vice President of Bancorpsouth, served as Vice President of Volunteer Bank, owned and operated Ham House Sporting Goods, and was previously a Claims Adjuster for U.S.F. & G. Ins. Co in the West TN area and was a charter member of the West TN Claims Adjusters Association.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Jada Sykes Slayton of Jackson, Tennessee; daughter, Janeil Day (Jim) of Jackson, Tennessee; son, Bob Slayton, Jr. (Suzanne) of Lebanon, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Dylan Day (Ashley) of Memphis, Tennessee, Ben Slayton of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Hannah Slayton of Lebanon, Tennessee, Slayton Day (Brooke) of Jackson, Tennessee and Heather Day Kee (Jonathan) of Huntingdon, Tennessee; four great grandchildren, Sykes Day, Livi Anne Kee, Adaline Kee and Jon Wilson Kee; niece (Favorite), Linda "Joby" Williams (Brad) of Surprise, Arizona; and a host of other family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2022 from 3 pm until 5 pm and Celebration of Life with Military Honors at 5 pm at Englewood Baptist Church in the Williams Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Marine Corps League, 165 Arlington Ave, Jackson,TN 38301 or to a charity of your choice.
