Bonita Joan "Bonnie" Rupp, age 89 of Cherokee, IA, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2024, at Accura Healthcare in Cherokee. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, IA. Father Dan Rupp will officiate. Burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cherokee, IA. Visitation with family present will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2024, at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee. There will be a rosary at 4:30 p.m. Monday, prior to visitation and a 7:00 p.m. prayer service following visitation at the funeral home. The Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee, IA is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.greenwoodfuneral.com.
Bonita (Bonnie) Joan Rupp, age 89 of Cherokee, Iowa, the daughter of Alfred and Mary (Reinert) Hanson was born on February 6, 1935, in Sioux City, Iowa. She graduated from Wilson High School in 1953.
On August 20, 1953, Bonnie was united in marriage to LeRoy Rupp at Immaculate Conception Church in Cherokee, Iowa. They were blessed with 4 children: Deborah, Roxane, Kurt and Kyle.
Bonnie worked for Cherokee Mental Health Institute in Personnel for 31 years. She loved spending time with her family. Christmas was her favorite holiday and she loved decorating their home. She was a very faithful member of IC Church. She was a past member of Catholic Daughters of America. During LeRoys 40 years as a Deacon, she would go with him and visit the local nursing homes every week.
She was preceded in death by Alfred and Mary Hanson, parents; LeRoy Rupp, husband; Kurt Rupp, son; Michael Halder, son-in-law; Sara Halder, granddaughter; Deloris and George Stevens, sister and brother-in-law; Jack Hanson, brother; Jim Hanson, brother; Irene and Claude Bortscheller, sister-in-law and brother-in law; Marie and Ed Bortscheller, sister-in-law and brother-in-law; Walter and Marge Rupp, brother-in-law and sister-in-law; Laura and Tony Frangenberg, sister-in-law and brother-in-law; Eleanor and Bill Dahlem, sister-in-law and brother-in-law; Donald and Bonnie Rupp, brother-in-law and sister-in-law; Leo Rupp, brother-in-law; Rudy Sims, brother-in-law; Fred D. Rupp, brother-in-law; Keith Clark, brother-in-law; John OLeary, brother-in-law.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Deborah Halder of Cherokee, IA; Roxane (Michael) Moller of Cherokee, IA and Kyle (Jody) Rupp of Gretna, NE. Grandchildren: Nicholas Halder, Rachel (Cody) Lucas, Jennifer Halder, Chad (Michelle) Moller, Allison (Corey) Kidwell, and Savanna Rupp. Great-Grandchildren: Emerson Lucas, Mia Lucas, Konner Moller, Karsten Moller, Cade Kidwell and Crue Kidwell. Sue Hanson, sister-in-law; Larry and Cyndy Hanson, brother and sister-in-law; Linda Hanson, sister-in-law; Shirley Sims, sister-in-law; Joan Rupp, sister-in-law; Norma Clark, sister-in-law; Mary OLeary, sister-in-law; many nieces and nephews and friends.
