Bonnie Kay Gewalt, a resident of Spring Grove, passed away on June 4, 2025 at her home. She was born on November 7, 1941 in Chicago to Harold and Florence (nee Wentzel) McGrath.
Bonnie spent her life dedicated to her family. She loved her children fiercely, and her grandchildren even more. She was a mother figure to many others throughout the years, she had enough love for all children that came into her life. Bonnie had a quick-wit and great sense of humor. She was a die-hard Chicago Bears fan, an avid reader, and a lover of all thing Christmas (especially her Christmas tree). Bonnie was sure to tell you about her Irish roots, as in her words "there are two kinds of people; those that are Irish and those that want to be." There was no place she'd rather be than sitting outside on her swing, reading a book and enjoying her flowers. Bonnie cherished time with her family, was incredibly proud of all her grandchildren, and always kept up with all their school and sports events.
Bonnie is survived by her children, Karl (Ellen) of McHenry, Kristin of Spring Grove, Paul (Nicole) of Wildwood; her grandchildren, Karly, Brooke, Eleni, Morgan, Kyla, and Jack; and her brother, Tim (Victoria) McGrath Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred; and her sister, Nancy Benton.
A Memorial Service will be held at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030 on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at 7pm.
