Bonnie Mae Neuberger was born on February 22, 1941, to Edmund E. and Esther (Kleven) Stickel in Eureka, SD, and spent most of her childhood in Brookings, where she graduated from Brookings High School in 1959. Following graduation, Bonnie attended Stewart School of Hairstyling in Sioux Falls, SD.
Bonnie and Larry met on a blind date and were married on June 17, 1961, at First Lutheran Church in Brookings, SD. They resided in Lake Benton, Minnesota, for over 50 years, where they were active members of the community. Bonnie was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Red Hat Society. In February 2024, Larry and Bonnie were reunited and shared a room at Luther Manor. They had been married for over 63 years when Larry passed in August, 2024.
Bonnie worked as a CNA at Tyler Sunrise Manor for many years and also served as a librarian at the Lake Benton Library. She was the ultimate sports fan-whether cheering for Larry in his coaching role or supporting her children and grandchildren in their athletic endeavors. Bonnie also enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting, playing cards with friends, BINGO and attending happy hour. Later in life, she and Larry enjoyed traveling, especially looking forward to spending winters in Brownsville, Texas.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Bonnie will be deeply missed. She was happiest when surrounded by her family and friends, and she was known for her quick wit, "words of wisdom," and one-liners.
Bonnie passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan Luther Manor in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on March 18, 2025, at the age of 84 years and 24 days. Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Michelle (Terry) Adams, Sioux Falls, SD, Todd (Cheryl) Neuberger, Sioux Falls, SD, and Chad (Theresa) Neuberger, Worthington, MN; grandchildren, Zachary Adams, Nate (Rudi) Neuberger, Lauren (Casey) Rhoda, Kaitlyn (Jason) Barker, Karly (Donald) Neuberger, Madison Neuberger, Jacob (Jessica) Neuberger, and Evan Neuberger; great-grandchildren, Graham Rhoda, Nelle Neuberger, Ada Barker, Noah Rhoda, Palmer Barker, and Jules Neuberger; sister- and brother-in-law, Patty and Jim Healy, Waukesha, WI; and many nieces and nephews. Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Neuberger, and her parents, Edmund and Esther Stickel.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors and staff at Luther Manor and Avera Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion.
