Bonnie Jean (Melvin) Rogers, 87, of Bloomington, IL, formerly of Hamilton and Bushnell, IL, passed away peacefully at Martin Health Care Center in Bloomington on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 11:20 p.m.
Bonnie was born on September 2, 1937, in Macomb, IL, the daughter of John Wayne and Helen Eileen (Speer) Melvin. On August 25, 1957, she married Bill "Red" Rogers at the Bushnell United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on February 18, 2007.
Surviving are her two sons, Brad (Lisa) Rogers of The Villages, FL, and Bart (Kris) Rogers of Morton, IL; four grandchildren, Trey (Jade Shimon) Rogers, Reed (Emma) Rogers, Hannah (Jack) Adlington, and Elle Rogers; one great-grandson, Nolan Adlington; five siblings, Joyce Staff of Quincy, IL; Janet (Jim) Hughbanks of Port Orange, FL; Gary (Tess) Melvin of Port Orange, FL; Jay (Pam) Melvin of Warsaw, IL; and Angie (Mike) Repp of Ellison Bay, WI; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a stillborn daughter.
A 1955 graduate of Bushnell Prairie City High School, Bonnie went on to enjoy a long career in the banking industry. She began her career at Farmers and Merchants State Bank in Bushnell, Security State Bank of Hamilton, and later worked at Hamilton Savings and Loan in Hamilton, IL. Bonnie held numerous positions during her time in banking, but her love was in her passion for helping and guiding first-time homebuyers through the process of purchasing their homes as a mortgage loan officer.
Bonnie was a people person and loved interacting with others on a daily basis. She enjoyed many activities throughout her life including Bridge Club and PEO. She was also a long-time member of the United Methodist Church and Womens Club. She loved hosting events and dinners at her house and her motto was "the more the merrier".
Being a coach's wife made her the best cheerleader attending all of her sons sporting events, and then, her own grandchildren's activities all throughout the years.
Her most avid love was the game of golf and she enjoyed playing a round of golf after work on the golf course she lived on, Deer Run Golf Course in Hamilton. Bonnie, and her late husband Bill, played in couples golf and both enjoyed traveling the country and going on trips and cruises. Up until her death, Bonnie was always on the go at Westminster Village, where she enjoyed greeting people at the front door and attending every activity offered each and every day. She was an avid cook and was always known at a family potluck for bringing her special recipe of "Bonnies Baked Beans".
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the Bushnell United Methodist Church with Pastor and long-time family friend Mike Shea officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Bushnell Township Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bill "Red" & Bonnie Rogers Academic Scholarship Fund that was established by the family after her late husband Bill "Red" Rogers' passing. The scholarship fund distributes college scholarships that benefit student athletes at Hamilton High School. Contributions can be sent directly to Martin-Hollis Funeral Home.
