Wanda "Zeet" Brundrett, 96, passed away on December 8, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones. Wanda was born on July 23, 1927 to Alpheus Jackson and Rosa Lee Smith Cornelius in Eden, Alabama. She grew up with five other sisters and graduated from Murphy High School in 1946. After her father passed away, she moved to the Houston area.
Wanda was a true "Southern Belle" with nails always painted and her lipstick on! While in Houston, she pursued a modeling career and worked as a secretary at Southern Pacific railroad where she was crowned "Ms. Southern Pacific". In 1959, she met and married the love of her life, Leyton Allee Brundrett. It was a true love story because they dated only six months and were happily married for 64 years. Leyton's career was in sales and training with Phillips 66, so they had the opportunity to live in Uvalde, Corpus Christi, Friendswood, Texas and Bartlesville, Oklahoma. They ultimately retired back in the Houston area making many friends along the way.
Wanda was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She could not have been prouder of her three daughters. She would brag on them every chance she got! She also was equally proud of the men they married and her grandchildren. She loved all four grandchildren with all her heart, and they affectionately called her "Zeet". Wanda was an amazing stay-at-home mom and loved taking care of her entire family. She kept the house "pristine", cooked homemade meals every night (with homemade desserts) and over the years sewed all her girl's clothes. Even though she was only 5'1", she was never afraid of anything or anyone. Wanda lived this life to the fullest and showed her love to all who were blessed to have known her. May our Lord and Savior welcome her home. We will never forget her YOU ARE OUR SUNSHINE.
Wanda is survived by, her loving husband, Leyton, and their three daughters and husbands: Jill and Brian Rojas, Amy and Kevin Crowley and Julie and Gary Gist. In addition, four grandchildren, Blake and Paige Crowley and Lillian and Leyton Gist. She is also survived by her two sisters, Bette Blackman and Ann Sands.
In lieu of flowers and in remembrance of Wanda, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to: Charity Guild of Catholic Women, 1203 Lovett Boulevard, Houston, Texas 77006.
