Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dryer Funeral Home, Inc. - Holly on Apr. 21, 2025.
Bonnie Kaye (Marshall) Viik of
Holly, Michigan passed away at home on April 19, 2025. The daughter of Robert Marshall and Donna (Brennan) Marshall, she was born on March 9, 1947 at Lincoln Hospital in Detroit, MI. She grew up in the area and went to Wayne Memorial High School.
Attending cosmetology school through a high school program, Bonnie finished the cosmetology certificate and a few months before graduation dropped out of high school to work at a salon. She loved doing hair and was a whiz at selling wigs that she also styled for her clients.
In May of 1966, at the Venoy Drive-In, Bonnie noticed a brand new, midnight blue Corvette and a dapper young man behind the wheel. He noticed her too and through the windows of their cars he asked, "How are you doing?" and invited her to get coffee. The rest is history.
On October 29, 1966 Arve and Bonnie were married at Good Hope Lutheran in Garden City. They spent the next few years in the area, welcoming a daughter-one day before her birthday in 1968. In 1973, they moved to Green Cove Drive in Holly on Mother's Day, May 13. It was there they had two sons and she and Arve spent the rest of their lives.
Bonnie and Arve loved Holly and made many friends, especially in the neighborhood. After her son Arve was born, she returned to high school and earned her diploma from Holly High, where all three of her children eventually graduated. Over the years, she enjoyed many different jobs. In the early 80s she and Arve, along with a neighbor couple, opened The Holly Arcade, a place where Holly kids-now grown-ups-fondly remember spending hours playing Pac-Man, Galaga, and the like. Bonnie obtained her EMT license to volunteer with the Holly Volunteer Ambulance, eventually becoming a secretary of billing for the service. And then she went back for training once again, and became a travel agent for a travel brokerage.
Bonnie loved crocheting, travelling, playing sudoku in her lanai and was an avid reader. She and Arve enjoyed exploring the country in their RV. She loved all kinds of travel-anywhere and everywhere, and especially loved going to her husband's hometown in Norway. She was passionate about college sports-especially MSU basketball, and was a huge Detroit Lions fan. But most of all she cherished her family. Bonnie and Arve were rarely apart-if you saw him, you saw her. She was a supportive, caring, fun mom who attended countless sports, music, and other activities that her kids and then her grandchildren participated in. She shared a very special bond with her grandchildren, always wanting the very best for each of them, accepting and loving them for who they were and believing in them. She even took a hot air balloon ride with her granddaughter once. Bonnie welcomed everyone into the family, treating her daughters-in-law and son-in-law as her own. She will always be remembered for her warmth. Even if she wasn't feeling all that well herself, she greeted others with a smile, a story, a joke, and her wonderful, infectious laugh.
Bonnie is preceded in death (by only six months) by her devoted husband, Arve, her parents, and her brother, Bob Marshall. She is survived by beloved children Lisa (Todd) Ferguson, Arve (Laura) Viik, Erik (Bliss) Viik, and adoring grandchildren Aron (Jessi), Megan and Hanna Ferguson, Ean and Evin Viik. She is also survived by her brother Richard (Barb) Marshall,
sisters-in-law Eli (Roy) Steyskal and Linda Viik, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A visitation will be held on Saturday May 3 from 9am -1pm with a funeral service at 1pm. Dryer Funeral Home, 101 First St,
Holly, MI.
