Bonnie Zagula Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home on Aug. 16, 2023.
On Sunday, August 13, 2023, Bonnie L. Zagula, of Weirton, WV, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away at the age of 80.
Bonnie was born in Rochester, New York on March 22, 1943.
After graduating from high school, she enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. where she served at Quantico, Virginia until honorably discharged in 1963. After moving from Clearwater, Florida to Weirton, Bonnie married her husband Ed and created a happy and loving home for her family. Bonnie later attended The College of Steubenville and Wheeling Jesuit College, where she obtained a degree in Business and Finance, and went on to become a stockbroker and financial planner. After working for several brokerage houses, Bonnie created her own firm which evolved into a family business.
Bonnie was dedicated to her clients and treated them like family. She forged her own path in a male-dominated profession and was an inspiration to working mothers in the 80's balancing family and career. She led an investment advisory group at Northern Community College and was consistently voted #1 financial advisor in the Weirton Daily Times Best of the Best. Bonnie was instrumental in bringing the Weirton Steel Corporation IPO (initial public offering) on June 15, 1989. Weirton Steel Corporation was one of the largest employee-owned companies and offered four million shares of common stock.
Known to her friends and the community for her kindness and generosity, Bonnie's door was open to all, and she was always ready to lend an ear and a helping hand. To know her was to love her, and she will always be remembered by her grandson's friends as Grandma Bonnie.
Bonnie's compassion and advocacy for feral cats was unwavering, often to the consternation of her neighbors. She was a generous supporter of numerous animal shelters and charities.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Edward Zagula, and will be remembered with great love by her sons Christopher (Beth) Ozazewski of Bel Air, MD, Matthew (Stephanie) Zagula, and David (Gina Travaglino) Zagula, her daughters Debbie Zagula and Pam Zagula, her grandson Charlie Zagula, her granddaughters Alex Ozazewski and Ava Ozazewski, her sisters Helen (Fred) Ford of Marion, NY, and Joyce (Paul Olson) Kelnosky of Hillsboro, WI, and her cats Tiger and Mama Cat.
The Zagula family would like to thank Rhonda Quattrocchi and the staff at Grace Cottage for their exemplary care and comfort over the past year. The compassion and kindness shown to our mother and to all of us has been overwhelming. The family is also grateful to Valley Hospice for their support at such a difficult time.
Private family services will be held at St. Paul's Cemetery Chapel.
