David Rager Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Chambers Funeral Home - Wellsburg on Mar. 20, 2026.
David James Rager, 73 of Weirton, WV, passed away suddenly on Monday, March 16, 2026 at WVU Medicine – Weirton Medical Center.

David was born on December 9, 1952 in Wheeling, WV. He was the son of the late James Rager and Dorothy (Taylor) Rager.

David gave more than 50 years of his life to Weirton Steel Corporation, working in the Hot Mill with a strength, dedication, and pride that defined the kind of man he was. His work was not just a job-it was a testament to his commitment to providing for his family and doing things the right way.

Though David was not a musician, he found tremendous joy in music, guitar history, and watching his sons perform. David loved classic rock, the roar of a muscle car, and

above all, the game of baseball. He was a lifelong WVU and Pittsburgh Pirates fan, faithfully cheering them on through every season, celebrating the highs and enduring the lows with unwavering loyalty.

David enjoyed American History, crossword puzzles and had a rich appreciation for sports history. He was always quick to share a quote form Seinfeld, South Park or any number of classic comedies where his distinct laugh could be heard from miles away.

He cherished time spent with friends, especially those moments gathered at the Irish Pub and often at Mountaineer Field, where laughter was shared, stories were told and life slowed down over a cold beer. David had a big personality but had an even bigger incredibly generous heart.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Rager.

He is survived by his three sons, Brad Rager of Wheeling, WV, Scott Rager and Andrew Rager, both of Wellsburg, WV, a brother, Michael Rager and his wife, Stephaine of Maryland, a sister-in-law, Barbara Rager of San Antonio, TX and a nephew, Brian Rager.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 from 11:00 AM until time of Funeral Service at 1:00 PM at the Chambers Funeral Home, Wellsburg, WV (304)737-3551.

A private interment at Highland Hills Memorial Gardens, Follansbee, WV.
