Levi Papson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Chambers Funeral Home - Wellsburg on Feb. 23, 2026.
Levi, beloved service dog of James Papson, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026, at Brooke Hills Animal Hospital after a brief illness, with his family by his side.

Levi began his life as a dog not knowing he was destined for anything beyond joyful barks, chasing after things, and being a loving companion. But this city dog grew into something extraordinary-a devoted and faithful service animal. From the moment he joined James, Levi embraced his role wholeheartedly and never left his side.

Together, they shared countless adventures-kayaking, boating, fishing, and camping. Levi especially loved trips to the beach, where he would leap into the waves, help build sandcastles, and dig holes alongside James-though it was always hard to tell who was the better digger. In the winter, Levi delighted in the snow, building forts with James and joining in playful snowball fights chasing the snow.

Above all else, Levi was a quiet protector. He was always watching over James, always nearby. When James climbed high into trees or wandered off, Levi stayed close, patiently guarding him. Levi was there at every party and every scary movie. At night, Levi would lie beside the bed, a comforting presence. Whenever James felt scared or lonely, Levi was there-ready to offer warmth, comfort, and the steady reassurance only he could give.

James was Levi's best friend, and Levi was so much more than a companion-he was a protector, a confidant, a source of courage, and a constant friend.

Levi's memory will live on in the hearts of his family-James, Natalie, and Rachel-and in all the lives he touched. Though called to be a service dog, Levi left behind something even greater: paw prints on our hearts and a love that will never fade.

Levi, your watch as a service dog has come to an end. Rest now at the Rainbow Bridge until the day you and James are reunited. Until then, we will carry on, supporting one another and taking the lead for you.

James Funeral Home was honored and privileged to assist the family with a private viewing and service with family and friends. Following the service, Levi was cremated and will be returned to remain with his family forever.
