Booker Johnson Obituary

It is with sadness and profound gratitude that we announce the passing of our dear father.

Booker Earl Johnson, lovingly known as "Big Earl", "Daddy" and "Papa." He was born on March 16, 1941, in Murray, Utah to Booker Elmo and Rosa Belle (Hadley) Johnson. He peacefully returned home on February 16, 2026, at his home in Paradise, surrounded by his beautiful wife, Eleanor, and several of his children. In his final weeks, each of his children, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, were able to visit- seeking one last piece of advice and sharing the love he so freely gave throughout his life.

Earl was the third child in his family and grew up in Murray, Utah, alongside his siblings Lillie Belle Anderton, Connie Alstrup, and Larry Johnson. From an early age, he developed the strong work ethic and steady character that would define his life.

On March 23, 1962, Earl married the love of his life, Eleanor D. Schroeder, in the Salt Lake City Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were just weeks shy of celebrating 64 years of marriage. Dad often said he was drawn to Mom "like a magnet," and they have been holding hands ever since. Their love was evident in the small, tender ways they cared for one another.

In 1979, Earl and Elly moved their growing family to Paradise, Utah, where they created a home that truly became a haven for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. What began as a property with a few small trees blossomed over the years into a beautiful acreage filled with gardens, orchards, a greenhouse, a woodshop, a barn, animals, and countless memories. Life in the Johnson home was never boring- full of hard work, laughter, adventure, and love.

Earl worked for many companies throughout his life He was a tireless worker who taught each of his children the value of dedication and integrity by having them work alongside him. Through his example, he taught his family how to work hard, persevere, overcome hardships, forgive, and- most importantly- love one another.

A devoted member of his faith, Earl served in many church callings, including three years in the Logan Utah Temple. His favorite calling was serving a mission from 2006 to 2008 at Martin's Cove, because, as he lovingly said, he had "the best companion." He and Eleanor also served faithfully at the Humanitarian Center in Hyrum.

On March 16, 2008, Earl faced a life-threatening battle with Guillain-Barré Syndrome and again two years later. He fought valiantly and won, though his health remained a challenge in the years that followed. Through it all, he showed courage, patience, and unwavering faith.Earl found joy in woodturning, creating beautiful pieces that he generously shared with family and friends- treasured keepsakes that will carry his memory for generations. He also loved bird watching, gardening, reading, traveling, serving others, working on the acreage, riding in the side-by-side with friends, and especially spending time with his sons and his growing posterity.

He had a remarkable gift for making each of his children feel uniquely loved- we all knew we were the favorite. His love was personal, intentional, and deeply felt.

Earl is survived by his devoted wife, Elly, and their ten children:Dody (Todd) Sheppard; Todd (Kari) Johnson; Fred (Lisa) Johnson; Sharon (Kevin) Brown; Shane (Lisa) Johnson; Elizabeth (Stirling) Vance; Ruth (Eric) Morrow; Lance (Erin) Johnson; Aaron (Shantel) Johnson; and Adam (Emily) Johnson.

Papa adored and spoiled 51 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren, who in turn adored him beyond measure.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Booker Elmo and Rosa Belle Hadley Johnson; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Johnson; and a granddaughter, Brittany Burningham.

The family would like to thank the healthcare professionals, Hospice providers, the children and granddaughters who helped provide compassionate service and support during these last few months.

Earl's services will take place at the Paradise chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 9060 South 200 West, Paradise, Utah. A viewing will be held on Sunday, February 22 from 5:00-7:00 pm and the viewing and funeral services on Monday, February 23. The viewing will start at 9:30 am with funeral service following at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at the Paradise Cemetery, with a family dinner afterward.

Though our hearts ache in his absence, we find peace in knowing that his legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the love he gave, and the family he cherished. We love you, Daddy. Thank you for everything.
