Bounneuang Syhabout, 94, of Olathe, KS, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 12th of 2025. She is survived by her 2 siblings, her younger sister Montha Khongmaly, her younger brother Bounthieng Khamsihong and her 7 children, Sophonh (So) Syhabout, Sysouphanh (Thik) Syhabout, Sean Syhabout, Phouangsouvanh (Nui) Boonyasiti, Saysamone (Mone) Phommachack, Phonephouvanh (Yai) Syhabout, and Phonesavanh (Thoon) Khamsihong, along with her 19 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.
She was born on January 1st of 1931 to Nark and Amkha Khamsihong in Champasak, Laos. She was the oldest of four siblings. She later married Bounlap Syhabout in 1953 and created a beautiful family together. They then immigrated to the United States in 1987.
Bounneuang was the backbone and matriarch of her family. She raised 8 kids on her own and she did it with grace and strength. She touched the lives of many with her kind, radiant spirit. Her strength and resilience was admired by all.
Other than being home, the temple was one of her favorite places to be. Every weekend was spent devoting her time to the temple and giving back to her community in any way that she could. Here she would make lifelong friendships.
More than anything she loved her family - her pride and joy. She instilled family values in all whom she loved; values that will be passed along from generation to generation. Her love, kindness, and grace will forever be imprinted and the hearts and lives she leaves behind.
Bounneuang is preceded in death by her husband, Bounlap Syhabout, her youngest son, Phoneinpanh “La” Syhabout, and her younger sister, Phimpa Khamsihong.
The family will receive guests for a visitation from 4:00pm-6:00pm on Friday, August 15th at Penwell Gabel’s Olathe Chapel located at 14275 S. Black Bob Road.
