Boyd Johnston Obituary

ALTOONA - Boyd Elkin Johnston, 91, passed away on Monday, Oct. 27, 2025, at the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center, Altoona.

He was born Oct. 27, 1934, the son of Elkin and Zetta (Whitaker) Johnston.

Mr. Johnston worked for and retired from North American Refractories.

He was an avid antique collector and attended many auctions.

Boyd is survived by three children, Jill (Nick) Wasilko of Chester Hill, Ryan (Mandy) Johnston of Curwensville, and Sheree (Earl) Hunt of Curwensville; 10 grandchildren, Caitlin (Matt Clyde) Capatch Morgan, Kendall (Dustin) Capatch Reed, Kyle (Lacey) Johnston, Tyler Hunt, Ashton (Chris) Fox, Kurtis Johnston, Kylee Johnston, MacKenzie (Chad) Billy, Gabrielle Wasilko, and Anthony Winebold; and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Lorraine Johnston on Feb. 16, 2019 and whom he wed March 23, 1957. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Boyd R. Johnston and Randy Johnston; a grandson, Ethan Hunt; and two brothers, Roger Johnston and Edward Johnston.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be in the McClure Cemetery, Curwensville.
