Bradford H. Monroe

Franklin, NH - Bradford passed on July 7, 2024, at Peabody Place, Franklin, New Hampshire, after a long illness, at age 93.

Bradford graduated from Guilford H.S., Guilford, Connecticut in 1949 and later attended the Junior Chamber of Commerce College in New Haven, Connecticut for 2 years.

At age 20, Bradford entered the US Navy and joined the Staff of the Charleston, S.C. Naval Hospital for two years. He was then sent to San Diego, California, put on a Troop Ship to Korea where he became a Navy Corpsman for the First Marine Division. As a Corpsman on the Front Line, he was in many battles and witnessed the devastation of War, including the battle of "Vegas" Hill. During the year and one-half he was in Korea, he gained several friends who remained in touch throughout their lives.

Bradford returned home to Guilford, CT in 1955, and then attended the Hampton School of Pharmacy in Boston, MA. He later spent 2 years at the New England College of Pharmacy, after which he returned home and worked in the Monroe Family Drug Store for 14 years. Bradford married the late Martha Morse of Guilford in 1956. They had 3 children: Bradford III, of East Hartford, CT: Wendy Ray Vincens, of Ellington, CT; and Gary Emory, of York, S.C. Being a volunteer at the Guilford Hook and Ladder was very important to Bradford for many years.

Bradford's second marriage was in 1975 to Audrey Chittenden Schneider, of Madison, CT. Bradford adopted Audrey's son Todd Edward, making him a member of his family. The new family then moved to the home which they built on the East River in Guilford, CT. At that time, Bradford worked at the Emory Morse Company in Guilford, which manufactured laboratory animal diets for research. Bradford and Audrey eventually purchased that Company and Bradford became its President. In his leisure time at home, he and Audrey spent many hours enjoying the views of the River and Marshland, as well as the wild animals and birds, the tides and the seasons. They, also, enjoyed boating.

After Brad's retirement, he and Audrey moved to Grantham, New Hampshire where they built a home in the Eastman Community. While there, they enjoyed skiing, Community activities, golfing and tennis. Bradford was a volunteer at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, N.H. for 5 years, and later was a volunteer at New London, N.H., Hospital.

In 2011, Brad and Audrey moved to Hilltop Community Association, New London, NH., where they enjoyed this unique New England Town. The couple had been married for 49 years.

There will be a private family service at the Veterans' Cemetery in Boscawen, N.H.
