Published by Legacy on Oct. 21, 2025.
Bradley "Brad" Eric Hays, a retired Staff Sergeant of the United States Marine Corps, passed away on September 7, 2025, in Ocala, Florida at the age of 54. Born on January 21, 1971, in Noble, Illinois, Brad lived a life marked by service, dedication, and an unwavering love for his family and country.
Brad served over two decades in the Marine Corps and dedicated himself further as a law enforcement officer at the Quantico USMC Base in Virginia. Throughout his career, he was recognized with numerous awards, including the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Marine Corps Combat Instructor, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, among many others too numerous to mention.
He carried the values of the Marine Corps with him in every aspect of his life. Brad was known for his strength, loyalty, and integrity, leading by example both in uniform and at home. He found joy in solving puzzles, playing board games with his family, and riding his motorcycle with friends.
As a father, Brad wasn't just a parent; he was a best friend to his daughter Emily. He imparted lessons of courage, protection, and deep love, which he not only spoke of but lived each day. Brad cherished his family, understanding the transient nature of time and the importance of every moment shared together.
Brad leaves behind a profound legacy of honor, humor, and love. He was a protector, mentor, fan, and father-a hero to those who knew him best. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Emily Hays; mother, Mona Carol Lovellette; stepmother, Leslie Hays; half-brother, Shawn A. Hays; stepbrother, Trevor Mathis; uncle, Richard Hays; and his dear emotional support kitty, Leena, whose playful antics always brought him comfort.
He was preceded in death by his father, John A. Hays; sister, Tawny L. Hays; uncles, Gary P. Lovellette, Jerry P. Lovellette, Noel J. Lovellette, Orvan G. Lovellette, J. Fielding Hays, Kennard Hays; and aunts, Bobbye Chenault and Jonquil Hays.
In his final days, Brad found solace in the love of his family, holding close the memories and photographs of his loved ones. Surrounded by their enduring love, he was embraced by the grace of Jesus and guided to Heaven's gates, where peace enveloped him.
Though Brad's time here was shortened unexpectedly, his legacy carries on. He can be found among fellow Marines, guarding Heaven's scenes. His spirit lives on, not just in memory, but through every lesson he taught, every Marine he mentored, every laugh he shared, and every safe moment he created.
A graveside service with Marine Corps Honors will be held on Tuesday, October 21, at 2:00 PM at the Coastal Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery.
