Braunya Lynn Hughes, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, was born on February 18, 1962, in Washington, D.C., to the late John Proctor and Delores Langley. Together they built a beautiful life grounded in love, laughter, and deep companionship. Their union was blessed with their daughter, Kendra Hughes-Hungerford. She was preceded in death by her twin daughters, LaKeisha and Nakisha Richardson, whose memories she held close to her heart. She was a proud grandmother to DonYeah Phillips, DaVonya Caudle, Bryce Caudle, and Klarity Hungerford, and a joyful great-grandmother to four great-grandchildren, whom she adored beyond measure DaNiya James,Dominick Godfrey Jr, Zayden & Zahmir Dabney. Braunya was the dear sister of Brigitte Proctor-Rawlings, Delores Morton, and the late Demertic Proctor, and she shared a special sibling bond with Xavier Proctor. She also leaves behind a host of loving aunts, uncles, extended family, and devoted friends. A proud graduate of Ballou Senior High School, Braunya later earned her GED and dedicated many years of service to the D.C. Public Schools system. She ultimately retired as a school bus driver, a role that highlighted her nurturing spirit and deep care for others. Braunya had an unmatched zest for life. She loved shopping, cooking, and opening her home to family and friends, where she made every gathering special. A fierce advocate for the elderly and anyone in need, she lived with a giving heart and generous soul. Her home was a sanctuary of love and warmth, always filled with laughter. She was also a competitive card player, especially known for her spirited Bid Whist games with her dear mother-in-law, Doris Hughes. Together, they reigned as champions of the card table and champions of fun. One of Braunya's greatest joys was traveling with her husband-whether to the beach, mountain cabins, bustling cities, or, most joyfully, to the casino. She loved the adventure, the company, and every moment spent together. Braunya Lynn Hughes will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her boundless compassion, and her unwavering love for her family. Her legacy is one of kindness, resilience, laughter, and deep-rooted love. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew her.
