Mrs. Brenda Sue Ely Gillis, 74, passed away at her residence on Friday, September 5, 2025. She was born in Soperton to the late Edward D. Ely and Almeta Jones Ely on December 8, 1950. Mrs. Gillis attended the Savannah Holy Church of God and enjoyed helping her husband with his Evangelical Ministry and was key in serving as the director of music and with the youth ministry. She enjoyed playing the piano, singing and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Charlotte Mingledorff; brother, Bill Ely and sister, Martha Wood.
She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Ray A. Gillis, Sr., son, Ray Gillis, Jr. and his wife Kelly of Coats, NC; six grandchildren, Jonathan Mingledorff and his wife Andrea of Savannah, GA, Bradley Mingledorff and his wife Reba of Buffalo, KY, Zachary Mingledorff, Ralyn Gillis, Jewel Gillis and Jadon Gillis; six great grandchildren, Luke, Lauren, Tate, Liam, Joanna and Theodore. Also by siblings, Jean Kennedy of East Dublin GA, George Ely and wife Joyce of Leesburg FL, David Ely of Macon Ga, Judy Grimsley of Macon GA,
and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the Savannah Holy Church of God.
Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Doctor Ryan Ralston and Reverend Bobby Miller officiating.
Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Rincon Cemetery, 150 Lexington Ave. Ext., Rincon, GA 31326.
