Brenda Hodes, 80, entered into rest on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.
Brenda was born on January 16, 1944, in Americus, Georgia to the late James Clayton Smith, Sr. and Georgia Ross McGhee. She graduated from high school in her hometown and soon embarked on a remarkable 40+ year career with Southern Bell, where she began as an operator and rose through the ranks to a second-level management position in operations, retiring with distinction.
Brenda was the epitome of selflessness, always putting the needs of others before her own. Whether it was sending a thoughtful card, sending flowers, or lending a helping hand to those in need, she made it a point to brighten the lives of everyone she encountered. Her generous spirit and unwavering support were felt by her family, friends, and community.
A devoted wife and loving mother, Brenda’s heart was as big as her smile. In her free time, she enjoyed entertaining loved ones, traveling to new places, and creating beautiful crafts, often making interesting things for others. Brenda was an avid skier who loved carving up the slopes with her husband and friends, especially at the renowned Steamboat Springs. The crisp mountain air, breathtaking views, and thrilling runs made every trip a memorable adventure for her and those lucky enough to join her. She will be remembered for the genuine care and compassion she extended to everyone she met. A true friend, a devoted wife, a caring mother—Brenda will be dearly missed, but her memory will continue to inspire kindness, generosity, and love.
In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by her siblings, James Smith, Jr. and Catherine Bowers.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her loving husband, David Hodes; children, Todd Tyler (Tammy), Stephen Hodes (Beth), and Todd Hodes; grandchildren, Logan Tyler, Layne Kirby (Kyle), Carson Hodes, Lily Hodes, and Asher Hodes; along with sister-in-law, Cathy Smith.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 8, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, Brenda will be laid to rest in Parkway Memorial Mausoleum.
For friends unable to attend at this time, the service will be streamed live at https://www.youtube.com/@McCulloughFuneralHome via the McCullough Funeral Home’s YouTube page.
