Brent Eric Crockett, 66, of Springport, formerly of Bloomington, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 13, 2025, at IU Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana. Born on June 26, 1959, in New Castle, IN, Brent was the son of James M. Crockett and Yvonne (Jessee) French.
He graduated from New Castle Chrysler High School in 1977 and went on to attend Indiana University in Bloomington, where he spent most of his adult life.
Brent had a deep love for the Bloomington area and the Indiana University campus. He worked in several local restaurants over the years and was most recently employed at the Uptown Café. A kind and gentle soul, Brent found joy in the simple pleasures of life, spending time with friends, strolling through the streets of Bloomington, reading, watching his favorite TV shows like Jeopardy, and listening to music. A lifelong fan of The Beatles, one of the highlights of his life was seeing them live in Las Vegas.
Brent is survived by his loving mother, Yvonne (Jessee) French of Springport; brother, Brad E. Crockett of Newburgh, IN; two step-brothers, Dale (Joyce) French of New Castle and Ben (fiancée Patsy Castillo) French of Fort Myers, FL; two step-sisters, Linda Ratcliff of Spiceland and Connie (Edward) Smith of Straughn; step-sister-in-law, June French of Greenfield; aunt, June Hall of Hagerstown; several very special cousins and many good friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, James M. Crockett; step-father, David French; step-brother, Jay French; step-sister-in-law, Patricia French; step-brother-in-law, Richard Ratcliff; maternal grandparents, Haden and Gladys Jessee; and paternal grandparents, Cullom and Edna Crockett.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, October 18, 2025 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Ben French officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Summit Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00pm until the time of service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the IU Health Cancer Center, 2401 W. University Ave. Muncie, IN 47303.
