Bret A. Leonard, 59 of Cumberland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 30, 2024, with his loving family at his side.
Bret was born on August 15, 1964, in Zanesville. He is the son of Charlotte (Huff) Leonard and the late Robert "Benny" Leonard. Bret worked as a heavy equipment operator and was a part of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 18. Beyond his worksite, Bret found solace and joy in hearing the roar of engines and the thrill of racing. He also enjoyed pulling tractors. Bret was a loyal friend and a loving family man whose laughter could light up the darkest of days.
In addition to his mother, Bret is survived by his son, Duell (Hannah Blake) Leonard; his sisters, Carla Jo Leonard, Susan (John) Snyder, Kerri (Rex) Rhinehart, and Mary (Kevin) Chaffin; his special dog, Oakley; as well as several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Bret was preceded in death by his father, Robert "Benny" Leonard; his paternal grandparents, Carey C and Mary F. Leonard; as well as his maternal grandparents, Vera Irene Hill Huff Weaver, and Roy B. Huff.
Private services for Bret were held, and he has been laid to rest in Cumberland Cemetery.
