Brett Ted Johnson

Brett Ted Johnson, age 64, of Elizabeth City, NC, died at home on Saturday, January 3, 2026. He was born in Norfolk, VA on August 2, 1961, to the late Patricia Adelia McManus Johnson and Wayne K. Johnson, he was the loving husband of Helena Zito Johnson.
Brett was known as a dedicated public servant and a respected member of his community. His career was marked by a steadfast commitment to serving and protecting others, first as a police officer in the City of Norfolk, where he upheld justice and safety with unwavering integrity. After retiring from the force, he continued his career in law enforcement as a detective with the Portsmouth Sheriff's Department and later served as a U.S. Marshal in Virginia. Brett transitioned to the role of superintendent in the ship repair industry, where he brought the same dedication and work ethic that defined his career in law enforcement. He was also an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police, where he found camaraderie and support among fellow officers.
In addition to his spouse, he is survived by his daughters, Ashley J. Perez (Jose), of FL, and Kellie Foster (Justin), of NC; his sons, Tristan Johnson, of VA, Curtis Wright, of VA, and Jason Ferrell (Jordan), of NC; his sister, Patricia Johnson Albertson (Gary); his brother, Billy Johnson (Susan); and his grandchildren, Briana and Alex Perez, Jaxon, Ryder, Knoxx and Banks Foster, Cooper and Alex Wright, Hunter Blake, Jenson and Jameson Ferrell. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Twiford Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Dan Campbell officiating. The family will greet family and friends for a visitation one hour prior to the service.
