Ben Franklin Sigmon, age 69 of
Marion, North Carolina, took his last breath and received complete healing in heaven on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at his home. The oldest of six children, Ben was born January 20, 1957 to Shirley Cauthen Sigmon and the late Neal Franklin Sigmon in Catawba County, North Carolina.
He was a man whose life was rooted in his love for God and his words, actions and the way he treated others was a testament to his faith. Ben never met a stranger and took great pleasure in making others laugh. His most proud accomplishments included graduating from Bandys High School in 1975, after which he entered the United States Coast Guard, stationed in Elizabeth City, North Carolina as a coxswain of the U.S.C.G. 40043 Utility Boat. After an injury, Ben was discharged honorably from active duty in 1979.
Continuing with his medical experience from the Coast Guard, he was employed with Frye Regional Hospital in Hickory, North Carolina as a Med Tech in which he used his knowledge and his humor to assist in treating patients from the emergency room to neurology and everything in between. His career changed once he completed his education in geoengineering, working with inspections and testing commercial and industrial constructions. Ben's geoengineering work ended after what became the first of many heart attacks. Returning to continue his education, he soon found his new love at Caldwell County Community College, as an instructor in the Information Systems Curriculum with emphasis in Microsoft Systems, having received multiple awards for his teaching. His commitment to the community college extended from serving as the president of the SGA to his honored membership on the board of Trustees with CCC from 1999-2003.
Ben enjoyed performing in the community theaters, but his greatest passion was fishing on the coast, especially on Jennette's Pier on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. He loved visiting the Blue Ridge Mountains to ride horses with his daughter. He had an enthusiasm for cooking and catering, with his main specialty dish being his famous parmesan chicken. Ben was a loving father, life partner, son, brother, uncle, and friend. Being a father was his greatest accomplishment by far. He loved his daughter Danielle with his entire being and spending time with her brought joy into his life.
Ben was preceded in death by his father, Neal Sigmon; his brothers, Joe and John Sigmon; and his brother-in-law, Eddie Copeland.
Left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Katie Danielle and her mother Tanya; his mother, Shirley Sigmon; love and life partner, Janet Noles; bonus daughter, Shana Noles and fiancé Will Hannabass; brother, Tim Sigmon and wife Donna; sisters, Teresa Copeland and Sharon Houston and husband Scott; sister-in-law, Brenda Wright; nieces, Elisha and Natasha; nephews, Cody, Carlos, and Chris; great nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Wayne Gant; he is also survived by his canine blanket thief and poor starving dog, Candi; granddog, Stormi; and all his "kitty kitty's".
A celebration to honor Ben's life will be held Saturday March 7, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Damascus Road Baptist Church, 8579 Huffman Avenue, Connelly Springs, North Carolina 28612, with Pastor Nick Johnson officiating, followed by a fellowship of family and friends.
The family would like to thank CarePartners Hospice of McDowell and especially nurses Sarah, Christi, and Darren for their help, knowledge and kindness during his last days, as well as the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, North Carolina for their care over many years.
