Funeral service for SFC Brett Reed, USA, (Ret.), age 67, of Lawton, Oklahoma, will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 29, 2025, at the Restoration Church, 1920 North 15th Street, Frederick, Oklahoma with Rev. Les Banks officiating.

Committal service with full U.S. Army military honors will be at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at the Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick.

Mr. Reed passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at his home in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Brett Nelson Reed was born January 15, 1958, in Dallas, Texas. He grew up in Moore, Oklahoma, and attended Moore Public Schools. He graduated from Moore High School with the Class of 1976. Brett joined the United States Army on October 5, 1976, in Moore, Oklahoma. During his military career he served multiple tours, including Japan, Korea, and Germany. He received several honors and awards while in the Army including Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (4th Award), Army Achievement Medal (4th Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer's Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd Award), and Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge. He was a Military Policeman for over twenty years and was head of Fort Sill's Special Reaction Team. He retired from the Army on December 31, 1997, after twenty-one years of honorable service. After his military retirement, he worked for the Comanche County Sheriff's Department. Brett was united in marriage to Mary Rushin on June 4, 2016, in Medicine Park, Oklahoma. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and camping. Brett had a great love for animals and raised horses along with a herd of longhorns which was a true passion of his. He was fond and proud of his pet pig, "Bacon". He was devoted to his family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; seven children: Brett Reed, II and his wife Rebekah, Gina Muse and her husband Keith, Rebecca Vargas, Morgan Albrecht and Alex Stewart, Jennifer Clark and David Clark, Heather Duncan and her husband Chris, Trey Gaines and his wife Elizabeth; twenty-one grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; one sister, Deborah Grubb and her husband Paul; and an honorary brother, Vernie Jacobs.

Brett was preceded in death by his mother, Bonnie Carol Dunlap, and his brother, Steve Sutherland.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Military Police Regimental Association (MPRA), P.O. Box 2182, Ft. Leonard Wood, MO 65473-2182 in loving memory of Brett Nelson Reed.
