Brian Gately Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services - Crawfordville on Nov. 18, 2025.
Brian Gately of Crawfordville, FL passed away on October 31st, 2025, at his home after a year-long battle of cancer at 77 years old.

He was born in Buffalo, NY on December 6th, 1947, to Paul and Elinor Gately. In Natick, MA, he grew up with his two brothers Paul "Ken" Gately and Robert Gately. He graduated from Natick High School in 1965, and he went to Mass Maritime Academy and served two years in the United States Navy. In 1970, he graduated from Grand Valley State College in Grand Rapids, MI. He worked at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company as a Technical Trainer for 34 years in Warwick, RI. In 1972, he married Marilyn Moore Gately in North Kingstown, RI, and remained happily married for 53 years.

Brian was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Elinor Gately and his siblings Suzanne Gately (who passed away of Leukemia before he was born) and Robert Gately. He is survived by his wife Marilyn Gately, his two daughters Katherine "Katie" Gately Ferreira of Crawfordville, FL and Leslie Dunham of Charlotte, NC, his brother Ken Gately, his sister-in-law Patricia "Pat" Gately, and his two grandchildren Kyra Gately Ferreira and Corbin Cade Ferreira.

Brian was loved by all people with his great sense of humor, optimism, welcoming smile, extremely curious nature, and larger than life personality. His favorite song is "Blackbird" by the Beatles. Some of his hobbies included curling (his team was the Curling Curlers in Wolfeboro, NH for about five years), woodworking, drawing, playing games, home improvement, animals, going to the beach with his daughter, and of course the New England Patriots. He loved vacations to his lifelong Birch Island family home in Maine, where he found an amazing community of friends and loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Wakulla Animal Shelter located at 1 Oak St., Crawfordville, FL 32327.
