BRIAN KNUTSON Obituary

BRIAN EUGENE KNUTSON Brian Eugene Knutson was born in Granite Falls on February 8, 1963, the youngest son of Virgil and Leola Knutson. He was a 1981 graduate of Granite Falls High School where he played basketball and baseball. Following graduation, Brian attended Granite Falls VoTech, earned three degrees (Fluid Power, Robotics, and Electronics) and continued to play basketball. He worked at Red Owl, the Granite Falls Bakery and Jake's Pizza while attending school. He then accepted a job with CCM (Computer Controlled Machines) in Northfield. CCM was later purchased by Colorado based Atlas Pacific Engineering with a satellite office in Minnesota. For a short time, Brian worked at Seagate and then returned to Atlas Pacific/Gulf Tech. Brian married the love of his life, Cathy Reiten, of Wood Lake in April of 1997. They bought a home in Farmington. When not pouring himself into the work he loved, Brian enjoyed playing men's and co-ed softball and volleyball, spending time in the outdoors, camping, drawing, and getting together with family and friends. Brian passed away in his home after a short and aggressive battle with cancer, still holding Cathy's hand, on Friday, January 26, 2024. Brian is survived by his loving wife, Cathy; his sisters, Gloria and Sue (Doug); his brothers, Tim, Al and Stan (Kim); mother-in-law, Lois; brothers-in-law Trevor (Shelly) and Scott (Kristen); along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his brother, Danny; his parents; his grandparents; his father-in-law, Wayne; and brothers-in-law Steve and Bob.

Cathy-

This is Fred Grimm. I used to work with Brian at Seagate. You may remember me when you and Brian came to the Bloomington house to see our recently completed-finished basement.

Even after our Seagate days, Brian and I stayed in touch via text, phone and email.

Brian and I were on the same Seagate Volleyball team and worked in the same department at Seagate. Brian and I were the only ones in our department who agreed to travel to other Seagate sites to help out on special projects. I often thought how much fun it would be if Seagate had sent the two of us on the same work trips.

One of our volleyball competitors at Seagate recently passed from cancer at age 52. I tried to reach Brian and let him know the news, but since I never heard back from Brian, I feared the worst that something happened to him.

I am so sorry.

As you well know, Brian had many talents. Brian was unique in our field because he not only had an amazing technical talent, he was an amazing athlete and had an amazing personality.

Hope this note confirms that you already knew that Brian was an amazing friend and not known by many an amazing artist. I was hoping after he retired that he could do a sketch of my giant bulldog Vito.

Again. I am so very sorry.

- Fred
