Brian F. Letner of Underwood, Iowa passed away January 26, 2024 in Branson, Missouri following a brief illness. Brian graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, with the Class of 1955. After graduation, Brian spent time in Korea, serving his country in the U.S. Army.

Upon his return to the States, after various jobs, such as pouring concrete with his brother Rod, Brian took a job with the telephone company, splicing cable pairs under the streets of Omaha. In his telephone career, with a brief hiatus to run Letner Trucking hauling grain to local elevators as well as various livestock to the Omaha Stockyards, Brian compiled a total of 42 years, retiring from an office position at CenturyLink in 1998.

Throughout his career with the phone company, Brian was often found cultivating his true passion, land and livestock. You could find Brian grinding enough feed on the weekends for his predominantly Charolais cow herd to make it through the work week, or unloading one of his 13 wagons of ear corn that were often harvested the night before. It wasn't until his retirement that Brian could spend his time as he truly wished.

In 2010, Brian suffered a life altering stroke, affecting his right side. That didn't stop his love for agriculture though. He still found time to talk his friend Wayne into driving him to the Denison Sale Barn to purchase 11 bawling bull calves from the Warden Dispersal Sale.

After several months of intense physical therapy Brian regained the ability to walk and earned his driver's license. The stroke, however, would change things forever. Brian, unable to do chores, reluctantly moved off the farm to a house in town to focus more on his four flat screen televisions.

Brian spent the rest of his retirement watching multiple sporting events at once, enjoying shows in Branson with Kay, and calling all of his kids and grandkids, often multiple times per day.

Brian was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Dorothy Letner; brothers, Richard, Rod, and Bruce Letner; and son, Aaron Letner.

He is survived by his special friend Kay Francis; brothers, Lynn (Diane) Letner and Larry (Kristy) Letner; daughters, Lorrie (Bob) McElroy, Kathy (Neil) Darrington, Anita Nunley; sons, Grant (Amy) Letner, Curtis (Analise) Letner; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Sunday, February 04, 2024.

Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Sunday, February 4, 2024. The family will direct memorials.
