Brian Mallard Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Island Funeral Home & Crematory from Jun. 12 to Jun. 20, 2024.
On Saturday, June 8, Brian J. Mallard lost his fight with cancer with his wife and best friend, Marcia, son Kevin, and two dear sisters by his side. Brian was a Hilton Head Island resident since 2018, an avid bike rider, a ham radio operator, a lover of aviation, and a great friend to all who knew him and his wry sense of humor.
Brian was born in 1960 to Margaret and Wynn Mallard in Jersey City, New Jersey. Brian was next to the youngest of seven children. He is survived by his wife Marcia, son Kevin of Fort Worth, TX; sisters Joan (Bob), Barbara (Lenny), and Mary Anne; sister-in-law Jodi (Russell); and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, brother Wynn, and sisters Peggy and Shan. Brian loved his family above all else and they will cherish memories of this smart and funny man.
Following graduation, Brian entered the U.S. Air Force where he studied Russian and became a Linguist Specialist. He was stationed at several bases in the United States and England.
Brian began his 33-year career with UPS, starting as a driver in New Jersey and ending in the corporate office while living in Johns Creek, GA. Brian earned his BS degree while working full-time. He retired in 2017.
For more than 40 years, Brian was an avid Ham Radio Operator, earning his Extra Class license. He volunteered at marathons, parades, car shows and in other capacities where he could use his radio communication skills. He was a weather enthusiast, loved working on computers and earned his private pilot license. He was a consummate DIY'er, loved tinkering around the house, and had every gadget imaginable.
In 1987, Brian met the love of his life Marcia. They were married for 35 years and best friends for 37 years. In 1995 they welcomed their son Kevin to complete their family. They enjoyed vacations, boating on Lake Lanier, and trips to the Outer Banks with their extended family. When his son moved away, Brian always looked forward to their daily morning conversations.
Brian always said, "I'm going to enjoy my life because life is too short." When he retired, they moved to Hilton Head where he took full advantage of all that the Island had to offer. He continued as an avid cyclist and served as a Bike Ambassador. Marcia and Brian were always among the first to volunteer to help with charity activities. They played pickleball and formed wonderful friendships in an amazing community.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, June 28, from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM at The Island Funeral Home & Crematory, 4 Cardinal Road, Hilton Head. Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org.

Marcia, I had no idea Brian was battling cancer. I am so sorry he and you all suffered and now he is gone. I know you and Kevin and Jodie have good memories and I am happy to know of another cyclist in the family. I will make a donation to a cycling org in his honor.

I am so sorry to hear Brian lost his very courageous battle with cancer. I was honored to get to know him these last few years and be part of his care team. He was a joy to get to know even under these unfortunate circumstances. You have my deepest condolences. His great love for his family was always evident.

Dear Marcia, Kevin, Joan (Bob), Barbara (Lenny), and Mary Anne, Jodi (Russell); and Extended Family Members;

Hello. Lovely Marcia would always speak of Brian with great love, regard and admiration. She, especially, thought he looked so handsome, in his UPS outfit. They were a wonderful couple to be welcomed by, as well as, spend time with.

On Friday, May 27th, 2022 I enjoyed a short visit with them. They were so kind enough to, always, warmly welcome to their home, and show me all their favorite spots, whether it be on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina or elsewhere.

We had such a nice and wonderful time, as we have had for years, in the Mallard´s journey of living-in, and visiting many states; New York, New Jersey, Georgia, Florida and -with Marcia´s wonderful Mom, (RIP-Mrs.Bernice Landman), also, and their very, polite and good son, Kevin.

During that last South Carolina trip, Marcia made a stop, at a store, and while she was inside, Brian mentioned the love he had for her, and Kevin. It was extremely touching.

We were all lucky to have met such a loving and devoted husband and father, to Marcia and Kevin, and nice human being. Brian has a terrific family, with son, Kevin and his wife, Marcia. He was a really thoughtful, caring, adoring and tender husband to dear Marcia, and an excellent father to sweet Kevin.

My thoughts and prayers are with Marcia, Kevin and the entire family.

My sincerest condolences with love,

Ellen C.

My condolences for your loss. Brian was my first manager at UPS and if not for his mentorship, guidance and patience I wouldn´t have survived at UPS for 19 years. He will be missed.

Brian was an inspiration, I loved how he would ride his bike during our lunch breaks or after work. Always helpful and made my days at UPS fun, especially at our volunteer events
