Was born on September 20,1961 to Sandra Bishop and Donald Mitchell in Indianapolis IN. He is the oldest out of three. A gentle “hat wearing” giant, usually quiet and passive in nature, often agreeable to whatever the majority wanted, but he had no problem standing his ground when the line was crossed. He graduated from Pike High School in 1979 and grew up on the west side of Indianapolis. There, he met his lifelong friends who became brothers to him. Much of his youth was spent running with his younger brother and their crew of friends.
Brian has always had a love for classic and racing cars, which showed in all aspects of his life. Brian was very proud of and told anyone that would listen about his infamous yellow Pontiac Trans Am that he had at young age. Brian and his crew enjoyed riding around the city soaking up all the attention that came with it. Brian’s love for cars led to a tremendous collection of model cars and various memorabilia that he often showed to anyone that would listen, whether voluntarily or involuntarily. You could often catch him watching the races on television, at the hobby shop, or telling of times when he attended events at the racetracks here in town.
Brian was a hardworking family man that mastered logistics and he would tell you he can drive “anything with wheels.” Brian recently retired from Southern Glazers Wine and Spirits after almost 15 years of service. Brian was an all-around old school man from his choice of music to his everyday lifestyle. He met the love of his life, Patricia Fentress over 30 years ago. They both spent their time hosting family gatherings at their home where he showcased his expertise of cooking his bbq ribs and fried fish. Brian shared his love of “the good old days” with his daughters and grandchildren. He took great pride in introducing them to his choice of music, Godzilla, classic cars, Charlie Brown, and classic Disney movies on VHS.
Brian was the man who often helped others, although you would have had to hear a lot of fussing, he always showed up when there was a need, and it came from a sincere place of love. He will be dearly missed by so many…
He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Sandra Bishop and stepfather Glen Bishop, his father Donald preceded him in death; his two daughters Vanity Mitchell and Brittany Callahan (Michael); brother James Mitchell and sister Sherry Williams; his lifelong partner Patricia Fentress; his six grandchildren Du’Juan, Darien, Trinity, Khi-Elaine, Jayce, Morgan ; step grandchildren and a host of nieces nephews aunts uncles and many more family members and friends.
