Brian Michael O'Neill, 63, of Palatine, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on October 28, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on January 31, 1962, in Peoria, Illinois, Brian was the second youngest of seven children to Bob and Amy O'Neill. He is preceded in death by his father, Bob O'Neill, and his brother, Greg O'Neill. He is survived by his mother, Amy O'Neill; his son, Domenic (Carissa) O'Neill; and his siblings Mark (Kathy) O'Neill, Chris O'Neill, Jeff (Shirley) O'Neill, Diane (Alan) Hogan, and Laura (Bruce) Peissig.
Brian attended Richwoods High School, where he played snare drum in the marching band-a passion for rhythm and music that would remain with him for life. Shortly after graduating, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1981 to 1985, spending time stationed in Japan. The strength, discipline, and dedication he developed during his service carried through every part of his life.
Following his military service, Brian began his career with Illinois Machinery, which sparked his lifelong work in the machinery and equipment industry. After marrying Melissa Medina in 1992, they moved to the Chicago area in 1993 where he would work for Perfection Machinery. In 1996, he became a proud father to his son, Domenic-a role he cherished above all others.
Later, Brian joined Hilco as a Machinery and Equipment Appraiser, where he built a respected career and was serving as a Senior Appraiser at the time of his passing. Brian had a deep love for travel, first inspired by his time in Japan and later through his professional work. He also found joy in music-especially The Beatles-along with golf, walks through the local forest preserve, reading, and relaxing with his favorite shows and movies.
Always an early adopter of technology, Brian was often the first in the family to explore new gadgets. His enthusiasm for computers inspired his son's path toward becoming a software engineer.
Known for his generosity, Brian loved surprising friends and family with thoughtful gifts-often mementos from his travels or items he thought they'd enjoy. But above all, he will be remembered for his humor and warmth. Brian had a gift for lightening the mood and making those around him smile, no matter the circumstances.
Brian leaves behind a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and love. His sense of humor, generosity, and unwavering devotion to family will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Services were private.
