Brian James Phillips, age 58, of North Granby, CT peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his family on December 26, 2023. He courageously fought a year long battle against Pancreatic Cancer, which was never a fair fight. He was the beloved husband of Jennifer and the devoted father to his six children, his greatest achievement.
Brian was born in Norwich, CT on September 23, 1965. He was raised in Glastonbury, CT alongside his twin brother David and younger sister Betsy. He graduated from the University of Vermont, class of 1987, as a computer science major. He started his career at The Hartford, where he met Jennifer, his best friend and future wife. After years as a well respected consultant, he came home to work at Cigna for the last 15 years.
He was a proud resident of Granby for nearly 25 years, building a beautiful home and an ever expanding family. Brian was known for his unwavering patience, sense of humor, kind-hearted nature, and calming presence. He was a teacher, mentor, and continuous learner. A lover of music, he appreciated talented artists from 80's rock to modern day musicals. He spent his limited free time floating in the pool, skiing, and watching Steelers games.
Above all, Brian was born to be a Dad. He truly enjoyed quality time spent with each of his children, whether that was lively family dinners, weekends spent at sporting events, or the annual road trip to New Smyrna Beach. He was incredibly selfless, always making his children his first priority. His final title of "Papa" to his four grandchildren brought him a whole new level of joy, laughter, and pride. Brian's kind and gentle nature will live on in the hearts of those that were lucky enough to know and love him.
Brian is survived by his wife, Jennifer; six children: Jennifer (Benjamin) Chapman, Kristen (Richard) Sullivan, Abigail, Andrew, Elsie, and James; his grandchildren: Madison, Henry, Cameron, and Lucas; his parents James Phillips and husband Gary Maggard, and Judy Arth and partner John Barghout; his siblings: David (Benz) Phillips, Elizabeth Phillips and partner Dennis Ciurcina, Jason (Meredith) Arth, and Allison (David) Francis; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to attend a service in his honor on Friday, January 5th at 3:00 PM, at Granby Congregational Church, South Campus, 242 Salmon Brook St., Granby, CT. Donations may be made in his memory to The American Cancer Society.
