Captain Brian A. Rahm, age 69, of Palm City, Florida, passed away on February 1, 2024, after a 4+ year-long and courageous battle with cancer, surrounded in love by his family. Brian was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Augustus (Gus) and Irene Rahm. The son of a Corporate Pilot, Brian spent his early years growing up in Long Island, New York. The family relocated to Bucks County, Pennsylvania where they resided in Doylestown and later Yardley, Pennsylvania. Following his graduation from Pennsbury High School in Fairless Hills, Pa. in 1972, the family moved to Plantation, Florida where his father Gus began his new career as a Yacht Captain.
After moving to South Florida, Brian met Marianne Johnson, a Miami native and love of his life. They were married at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in 1982. The family settled in Weston, Florida where they raised their two sons Randall and Nicholas, before moving north to Palm City, Florida in 2017.
As a young man following in his father's footsteps, Brian began working on yachts, learning the "old school" ways of proper yacht captaining and maintenance, ultimately earning his USCG Captains License. Early in his yachting career, Brian worked on private yachts including the Big Dipper, Emerald Cay, Seagull, Serenity, Martha Ann, and Westship Lady. Brian segued his yachting skills to start his own marine service business in Ft. Lauderdale, Star Marine Service. During this time, Brian also served as delivery Captain for Westship Yachts, delivering new yachts built in Westport, Washington to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. It was reported at the time that Captain Brian set the speed record for the fastest delivery time of a Westport yacht of 18 days total, including 4 non-running days for refueling, supplies, and the Panama Canal transit, covering roughly 5,600 miles. Brian returned to sea in 2001, serving as the Yacht Captain for the Patti Lou, a 120' Cresent Yacht, a position he held until his retirement in 2020. In June 2022, Brian "unretired", serving as Captain for M/Y Patti Lou's summer trip one final time.
Brian is survived by his wife of 41 years, Marianne, their two sons, Randall, and Nicholas, his two brothers Randall Rahm (Kim Rahm) and Captain Rick Rahm (Jane Rahm), his nephews Josh Rahm (Lindsey Rahm) and Ashton Rahm (Rachel Rahm), his niece Brittany Rahm, and his grand-nieces and nephews Sunnie, Grady, Greyson, and Olivia, and his two beloved Shiba Inu's Lucy and Gus. A private family service and interment at sea will be held in the beautiful waters of the Bahamas, Brian's favorite place to sail. May you have fair winds and following seas.
