Brian Wynne Simpson

Mystic - To know Brian Wynne Simpson was to know someone who lived life to the fullest extent; someone who saw the magical in the everyday and whose signature blend of mischief, kindness and wisdom made everything and everyone he encountered better. Brian was born Sept. 2, 1937, in Southbridge, Mass. He graduated from Nasson College and earned an ABD from UConn sparking his passion and work as a beloved professor of economics at Husson College and, later, Three Rivers Community College, where he taught for 37 years.

Brian died peacefully Oct. 3, 2025, after a long life well-lived. He is survived by the love of his life, Donna Moran Simpson; his sister Sharon (Walter) Napierata; his two daughters, Jennifer (David) Barstow and Elizabeth (Christopher) Brady; his four grandchildren: Jade, Jack, McKenna and Catherine; and many other beloved family and friends he loved as family.

Brian could most often be found exploring (or, as he often referred to it, "puttering") in ways big and small. In their 50 years of marriage, Brian and Donna travelled everywhere from Japan to Antigua, which they visited each January for 25 years. He could often be found weeding and planting in the yards of friends, family and strangers, or collecting bottles and cans from the recycling barrels of Waterford with his dog. He was an avid tennis player and a regular attender of the U.S. Open for over 30 years. Brian lent his time and energy generously, including with hospice patients and the Great Gull Island project. But most of all, he was deeply devoted to the people in his life. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the chance to know him.
