Brian's Obituary

Brian Robert Twiss, 65 of Middletown, beloved husband of Patricia (Higgins) Twiss and loving father to Caitlin V Higgins of Portland, CT, passed away after a long illness in Hartford Hospital on January 22, 2026.

He was born in Middletown; the son of Theresa (Thompson) Twiss and the late Harry Francis Twiss on April 28, 1960.

Brian attended St. John’s School and Xavier High School in Middletown.  He then went on to the University of Hartford, for Arts & Science for one year. After that he attended Hartford State Technical College and received an Associates degree for Electrical and Electronics Engineering and finally he attended Central Connecticut State University where he earned a BSCS in Computer Science Engineering.

He spent over 26 years working for IPC Systems, Inc., starting in Westbrook, CT and moving to the Fairfield, CT office. His work experience took him around the world: spending time in Hong Kong, London, New York City, Canada and many distant locations.

Brian loved traveling, especially to London where he developed his love of Indian food, the spicier the better!  When he went to a restaurant in London all the workers and chefs knew him and would prepare a special dish for him to try. Brian was also an avid gardener, growing prize winning peppers for many years, winning many ribbons at the Durham Fair.  He also loved cats, cars, and guitars. In his teens and 20s he played and sang in a band called Mirage and performed at the Milford Oyster Festival, and many other locations. But most of all Brian loved his family, friends, and his beloved furbabies, Bertie-Bert, Simon Michael Jackson, and Lali-loo.

Brian is survived by his wife, Patty; daughter, Caitlin and her long-time partner, Patrick O’Leary; his mother, Theresa; his uncle Bill Thompson and his wife Janet of Kerrville, TX; his cousins Michael J. Thompson of Charlston, SC; Dr. Craig R. Thompson and his wife Jeanne and their children Liam M. Thompson and Brendan C. Thompson of Whitney, TX; Erin M. Thompson of Raleigh, SC; and his goddaughter, Kayla Wodzicki, of Boston, MA.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 7, from 1p-3p at Brooklawn Funeral Home, 511 Brook Street, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.   In lieu of flowers the family encourages you to make a contribution in his memory to  CatTalesCT.org or the charity of your choice.  Internment will be private.
