Bridget Brannigan August 5, 1936 – May 23, 2025 Orangeburg, NY
Bridget Brannigan of Orangeburg, NY passed away peacefully on May 23, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was 88 years old. Daughter of the late Bridget (Wright) and Michael Swift, she was born in Corbally, County Sligo, Ireland on August 5, 1936.
Bridget immigrated to the United States at the age of 19 and joined her sister Mary in New York. She met Jim Brannigan at a dance, though he claimed he met her "right off the boat", and he would become her husband. After settling into married life together, they moved to Monroe and raised 5 children. Bridget was a dedicated parishioner of Sacred Heart Church. She enjoyed attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting events, dance recitals, plays, and concerts. She also enjoyed playing cards with friends, betting on horses at OTB, traveling, and spending time with her family "across the pond". Bridget loved her trips to Vegas and Atlantic City, where she would post up at the slots! She was the neighborhood barber and a "second mom" to many, and she loved to cook especially her famous meatballs! She also loved to shop (TJ Maxx was always a favorite!). More than anything, Bridget loved being with her family. She was so proud of her 9 grandchildren, and so happy to be a great-grandmother of 3.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving children: sons James (Maureen) of Syosset, NY; Matthew (Susan) of Warwick, RI; Kevin (Maureen) of Hillsdale, NJ; and daughter Denise Catalanotto (Charles) of Orangeburg, NY. Bridget leaves behind a legacy of 9 grandchildren: Megan (AJ), Kayla, Amanda (Grant), Ryan, Kyle, Luke, Caitlin, Tara, and Connor; as well as 3 great-grandchildren: Quinn, Avery, and Gavin. She is also survived by her sister Christine Selmes of Bedfordshire, England, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, four brothers, and one sister, Bridget is predeceased by her husband James and her daughter Maureen.
We are forever thankful for our mom's caregiver, Mary O'Meara, who was our "angel" and who was loved dearly by our mom. The family would like to thank Brightview Lake Tappan, where Bridget resided for the last 4 years and received wonderful care and formed treasured friendships.
Visitation will take place from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush Funeral Home, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe, NY. Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at St. Anastasia Church, 110 Route 17M, Harriman, NY. Interment to follow at St. Columba Cemetery, Route 94, Chester, NY.
