Bridget M. Downing

Bridget "Betty" (nee Barrett) Downing passed away peacefully at home on November 21, 2025. She was a native of Crossmolina, Co. Mayo, Ireland
Betty was pre-deceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, Denis "Joe" with whom she shared a wonderful life and raised a beautiful family in Astoria. She was the loving mother of Carol(JP), Mary(Pat), Brendan, Colleen(Jimmy) and Erin(Doriano). She was a beloved grandma to Ryan, Patrick(Mary), Seamus(Jackie), Kerry(Brian), Liam, Rory, Aislinn, Jesse, Dylan, Jameson, Kiera and Shane and great grandmother to Wyatt, Noah and Jack.
Survived by her sister Mary Harrington. Pre-deceased by her parents Thomas and Ellen Barrett, brothers John and Peter, sister Helen Gallagher, grandson Rory McGonigle and son in law Patrick McGonigle.
Betty loved visiting Ireland and spending time in the "Irish Alps" in East Durham, NY where she and Joe formed lifelong friendships and passed on their love of their Irish heritage to their family. Betty had unwavering faith and was an active parishioner of St. Joseph's Church for over 60 years. She was a generous soul who always quietly offered help to those in need. She had a life well lived and is now reunited with the love of her life. She will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
