Broderick (Rick) Paul Lachney was born on April 29, 1957, in Vancouver, Washington to his wonderful parents, Paul Newman Lachney and Jeannie Winafred Lachney. Rick was the 2 of four strong and healthy children. In 1959 Rick's fathers job led the family to relocating to Central Valley, California. In his younger years, Rick went on several hunting adventures with his father near Shasta Lake.
Rick attended school testing the patience of all the nuns on campus, and during his attendance at Central Valley High School, he met his first wife, Joanna Rice. They both graduated in 1975 and together they moved to Vancouver, Washington where they were married in 1976. In their first year they lovingly welcomed their first child, Dawn Marie Lachney on February 23rd, 1976.
It was the following year in 1977 where Rick began his adventure into the automotive world. He began his journey at the Union 76 Station on the corner of SW 15th & Jefferson where he teamed up with Larry Campbell aka Uncle Boots. Rick dug right in and spent his time learning everything he could about mechanics and automotive electrical work. When he was 21 years old, he became the owner of the Union 76 Station where he provided both gasoline servicing and automotive repair services.
In 1981 Rick and Joanna divorced and Rick sold the 76 Station. He then began his work at Riches Auto Repair where he met his lifelong best friend, Ed Bubuska. Shortly after they met, they both made the decision to pursue greener pastures. This led them both further up the street where they joined up with Chuck Greenough at Andy's Auto Supply.
In Spring of 1983 Rick met his 2nd wife Connie Cranor. The following year he proposed to Connie and asked to adopt her son Dustin Cranor. On March 29, 1985, Rick and Connie married in Reno, Nevada. Not long after on October 14, 1985, they welcomed their first daughter Stephanie Anna Lachney. Less than a month later after Dustin's 3rd birthday the judge signed off to make the adoption of Dustin Michael Cranor official. Rick was now the proud father to his only son.
Rick continued his work at Andy's Auto Supply and eventually was promoted to the general manager. In the spring of 1989, Rick and Connie had decided to divorce.
After many years of loyal friendship, Ed decided to move onto other pursuits and opportunities. Rick maintained his role and expanded to managing the front office. After all of Rick's years of faithful and loyal service, in August 2015 Rick became the proud owner of Andy's Auto Supply. Rick maintained ownership of the shop until his passing on May 20, 2025.
In his life, Rick enjoyed many adventures. From his hunting trips as a teen and young adult with his dad. Fishing and water skiing at Shasta Lake. To Bowling on different leagues with Connie and his friends. He also enjoyed camping with his intimate family and boating the rivers and lakes with his buddies. He also loved skiing Mt. Bachelor and snowmobiling the fresh slopes.
In his later years he enjoyed traveling and seeing the world on cruise ships or by plane. He was a wonderful father who loved his family, a dedicated mechanic and a mentor to many over the years including introducing his two daughters into the automotive industry. He was a hard worker, hardheaded, strong willed and slightly onery but no matter how many times life knocked him down he always stood back up and shook it off.
Rick is survived by his 3 children, 4 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters and 1 brother.
