Brook Lynn Black, 87, of
Noblesville, Indiana passed surrounded by family at 12:12 pm, Thursday, March 12, 2026 at his residence.
Brook was born on May 18, 1938, in Kosciusko County, Indiana, and lovingly raised by his parents George and Vera (Arter) Black. He was raised with strong family values that stayed with him throughout his life. Brook graduated from Beaver Dam High School, where he enjoyed playing both basketball and baseball.
On June 19, 1959, he married the love of his life, Loretta Young, at the Akron Church of God. Together they built a life centered around family, hard work, and shared adventures. Their marriage of more than six decades was a testament to their commitment and love.
Brook began his professional career in the funeral service industry, assisting at Haupert Funeral Home in Akron, before spending twenty years in insurance sales with First Equity Life Insurance. He later began a second career as a Realtor with Prudential. Over the years, he earned his real estate and insurance licenses, along with his pilot's license.
He was a member of the Scottish Rite and Mizpah Shrine of Fort Wayne, as well as Masonic Lodge No. 73 in Warsaw, where he served as Past Master. Brook was also a member of Castleton United Methodist Church in Indianapolis.
Brook enjoyed an active and adventurous life. He loved golfing and water skiing, and in his younger days, he delighted many with his tap dancing talent-even performing on television, where he tap danced on roller skates down a set of stairs.
He and Loretta especially loved traveling and shared many memorable cruises and trips with family, including visits to Hawaii, Europe, and Alaska. Brook took great pride in caring for his home and property and was known for his careful attention to detail. He cherished returning to the Warsaw area to visit the family farm, now home to the Tippecanoe Valley School campus.
Above all, Brook will be remembered as a caring and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, who always checked in on the people he loved.
He is survived by his wife Loretta Black of Noblesville; children Brent Black, Cheryl and husband Jack Schinderle, Vonda and husband Vincent Recinto, Rhonda and husband Donny Golden, and Todd and wife Erin Black; bonus daughter Debbie Applegate and husband Chris Denny; grandchildren Caitlin Golubski and husband Frank, Madison Black, Brandon Black, Riley Schinderle, Rudy Schinderle and wife Yessica, Danika Golden, Dacoda Golden, Joseph Golden, Cleo Recinto, Samara Black, and Adelyn Black; and great grandchildren Lilah, Barrett, Eleanor, Anderson, and Luna; and a sister Susan Priest.
Brook was preceded in death by his parents George and Vera Black. father and mother-in-law Cleo and Jessie Young, son Terry Lynn Black, grandson Augustus "Gus" Schinderle, birth mother Jane LeCount, brothers Don LeCount and Robert LeCount, and sisters Barbara Gladiuez, Jean Kern, and Sharon Zippay.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Hartzler Funeral Home 305 West Rochester Street
Akron, Indiana.
The interment will follow the service in the Mentone Cemetery, Mentone, Indiana next to his parents.
Visitation hours will be held from 11 am to 1 pm, Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Hartzler Funeral Home,
Akron, Indiana.
