Brooks Vandevanter Obituary

Brooks Blakeney Vandevanter, born April 7, 1957, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025, in Locust Hill, Virginia at 68.

He was a cherished member of his family, dear to many in the community. He had great memories of and maintained lifelong friendships with his graduating class of Loudoun County High School (1975), many of whom he had known since kindergarten. He possessed a quick sense of humor and an agile mind, qualities that endeared him to all.

Brooks graduated from the University of Richmond and held an Associates Degree in Accounting from Virginia Commonwealth University. He received licenses as a Master Electrician and Real Estate Broker, and as an entrepreneur, he founded two companies, Van Electric and Solar Green Electric Corporation.

Brooks had a deep love for animals, especially dogs. In his youth, he was a student of Civil War history, particularly interested in the battles of northern Virginia. He found great joy in hiking and camping amidst the Colorado mountains during the years he lived in Boulder.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elliott Vandevanter Jr., mother, Helen Henry Vandevanter, and brother, Peter Vandevanter. He leaves behind a loving family: sisters Karen Chapman and Sally VanDevanter; sister-in-law Jan; nephew Willis; nieces Ruth and Elizabeth; and their families. He is also survived by his beloved cousins Laura, Carol, and James Henry, and their families.

A memorial service will be held at Union Cemetery in Leesburg, Virginia, at 1:00 p.m., October 3rd, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a local animal shelter. Brooks will be remembered for his warmth, wit, and unwavering love. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him.
