Brownie Jeanette Ingle Gothorp 95, of Burlington, passed away Sunday, February 18 2024, after a short illness at Alamance Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family who provided comfort and support during her final moments. She was the wife of 61 years to Marvin Gothorp of the home.
Born September 2, 1928 in the Whitsett community of Guilford County, she was a daughter of the late Maggie Neese Ingle and Junius Adron “Doone” Ingle. She grew up as member of, Brick Reformed Church in Guilford County.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin Gothorp of Burlington, her daughter, Sherri Rivers (Benjamin) of Fairburn, GA, her son, Roger Gothorp (Celeste) of Graham, NC. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, Hannah Wilson (Brice) of Broken Arrow, OK, Adron Gothorp (Taylor) of Siler City, Ashlie Roy (Lewis) of Milton, FL and Heather Squires (Mike) of Graham, NC, as well as 11 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and 12 siblings.
Brownie traveled the nation as a military spouse before returning to Alamance County. She has worked in various occupations throughout her lifetime, including at several Alamance County hosiery mills, building missile components at Martin Marietta (now Lockheed Martin) in Orlando, FL, and 13 years in food service for Alamance Burlington School System.
Above all else, she loved her family and cultivated many lifelong friendships. She never met a stranger and enjoyed meeting new friends everywhere she went. She loved going out for breakfast and dinner every day and cherished the friendships she developed at every establishment she visited. She supported her family in every possible way and nothing was more important to her. The light that she brought into the world will remain in the hearts of everyone that she has touched.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00PM, Friday, February 23, 2024 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Reid Dickens. The burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4-6PM on Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home.
